The closest casino to me is Horseshoe Southern Indiana but I prefer driving an extra 20 minutes to Belterra where they have better food, rooms, comps and even the pool is nicer. I haven't been to Vegas in 2 years...been going on junkets to AC but all that is about to change. The Golden Girls Gone Wild will hit Fremont Street on Thursday August 23....watch out for all the gamblingrandmas. Party ON!
We go to WIN STAR one hour from Dallas TX north just across the Oklahoma border.

It is now the second larget casino in the world!!

Thousands of slot machines. Constantly removing old ones and adding new models.

Laura plays Outbackjack/Cashman/ and Monopoly.

I play live poker or Viedo Poker.

The place is huge, I get my exercise walking from one end to the other 6 or 7 times while Laura plays.

They are still building onto it. A new hotel tower is gowing up.

They plan to add a waterpark near the hotel.

The current buffet seats about 100, there are plans to build a new one near the hotel end of things that will seat 500 guests.

A comedy club and a night club are under construction.

Go to Atlantic City several times a year - it's okay but with the comps it is a fun two days. Never really win though. The Boardwalk is the nicest part. Remember it from years ago when it was REALLY nice in AC.

Visit Vegas about twice a year; usually in January and June - January is a family winter retreat - siblings from all over spend time downtown. Husband and I do this and then hit Laughlin.

Just returned from the Midwest and stopped at the newly opened Hollywood Casino in Toledo. Beautiful casino, fantastic machines - most so different and exciting - some I never saw before. Did come out ahead too!

I have been using Belterra more of late. I haven't been to Horseshoe in over 3 years (it is a 3 hour drive for me). Belterra is considerably closer. On occasions I will stop at Rising Star (formerly Grand Victoria).

This year's visits have been fewer because pf financial and family reasons. September of 2011 was my last visit to Vegas.
Update - my husband took me to Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK yesterday for a quick birthday celebration. We hit a few wins on dollar slots and decided to try some high limit slots. Hit two $300 payouts on a $5 King of Coin machine and DH slipped a hundred into a $10 Double Lucky Leprechaun machine. Playing one coin, on the fourth spin it "went red" which means it haywires or respins - three times! $2095 was the ticket, and since no spin total was over $1200, we did not have to sign for anything. That was our best win of the past two years.
Came home with most of it, so it was a good day. We probably won't be back to Vegas until Dec/Jan or beyond, due to m travel schedule.
We are definitely gambling more locally, the Southern California NA casinos have the same games as Las Vegas, or at least my favorite games. We used to love going to Vegas, but for me as I get older I would rather take a week long vacation to somewhere tropical or new, Hawaii, Antigua or a cruise...

Engaging in the same activity for an entire week becomes somewhat tedious, but I do miss shopping at the various outlets, the variety of restaurants and being further away from home when gambling.

Last trip to Las Vegas was in 2008, we used to go 2-3 times a year, now not sure when we will return. Maybe a trip in 2014. Until then I will be gambling at the local casino, 1.5 hours away, day trips and overnighters are great, keeps the interest in gambling going. The local casinos, comp the room, food & free play.
Glad to see that DonDiego is thinking of visiting Blackhawk Co.. We have had pretty good luck it our couple of visits this past few months. You can find some decent VP paytables here and there.
Like the "Lodge Casino, Fitgeralds and Lady Luck. (cause I have won at those places) not so good is Ameristar- Vp sucked.
Will be going to Harrah's Joliet for my BD. Meeting some friends, will do lunch at Paula Deen's Kitchen..(I've wanted to try) and our friends like it. Can do the buffet or order from the menu. Some like the buffet offerings, others like the shrimp & grits from the menu, but all agree the hoe cakes are delish! Looking forward to the 16th and a Royal Flush!
