The change lights don't "work" for change (ie; you're going to wait and hope anyway), why do you think they would work for drinks?
Walk into a slot area and look around. You may see 10% or more of the machines with lights lit. Sure, some of those lights signify something other than "change", but the lights are lit, and yours is just lost in the sea.
Best way to insure good CW service is a memorable tip and interaction. Remember there name when they take your order, when they return, say "Thanks Julie" (or whatever) and give a "good" tip. Than tell her something like, "Julie, I'm pretty thirsty, and will be ready for another in about 5 minutes.
Works for me, and I usually only tip $1.00 or $2.00. But I'm polite, remember their name, and try to make them smile or laugh with an inane remark.
"What would you like, Sir?"
"Julie, I'd like a slow dance in the parking lot, or a rum & coke."
I've "trained" some to just bring me a drink every time they pass until I've had enough and one is stacked while the other only partially consumed. And every time, I use their name.
