Anyone find it harder to get free drinks while playing slots/vp?

Harrahs Laughlin and Rio now have drink Ambassadors who take your order on an Ipad or Iphone. The cocktail waitress serves them. Very efficient.
I remember once in Laughlin at the Flamingo (now Aquarius) - I was playing Blackjack.

I had a stack of $1 chips and a stack of $5 chips. I ordered a Long Island and when it came I grabbed what I thought were two $1 chips for the tip. As I laid the chips on her tray I realized I'd given her two $5 chips. I told myself "what the hell" and continued to play.

About ten minutes later, she returned and dropped off two more Long Islands for me...
for those of you having trouble finding a CW to take your order, I have the opposite problem. Even though I play at a casino where you can order the drinks directly from the machine, the CWs come by every five minutes.

I don't want to be rude, but the way the bank of machines is set up where I play, if I turn to politely say "no thanks" I am distracted if in the middle of a hand, and more dangerously, I'm distracted so that someone could hit my cash out button. On a quiet night that is not a problem. but on a busy night that is a real danger.

I try to cover the cash out button with my hand when I turn, but sometimes I just can't finish the hand, cover the cashout, turn to the CW all at once.

Sometimes I feel like taping a sheet of paper on top of the machine that says "no drinks, thank you."

Best way to insure good CW service is a memorable tip and interaction. Remember there name when they take your order, when they return, say "Thanks Julie" (or whatever) and give a "good" tip. Than tell her something like, "Julie, I'm pretty thirsty, and will be ready for another in about 5 minutes.

it's that simple. Tip well. Be polite. Be memorable. Tip well. They won't pass by on a "sure thing" once you have established yourself.

+1. Or is that +2 now?hehe.
Anyway, this behavior has never failed to get very prompt drink service for me. I usually will tip really heavy on the first one (3-5 bucks) if I know I'm going to park it for awhile, that has almost always insured I'm one of the first guys served on her route and also has carried over to the next girl on the shift.

I'm not sure that i can add too much more. I will add on an earlier comment that your first tip should be memorable. I wholeheartedly agree. If I plan on playing for 2+ hours, I'll tip $5 on my first drink. That makes you memorable. After that I only tip $1, but as KayPea duly noted, "They won't pass on a 'sure thing' once you have established yourself". Of course, it all becomes a moot point if you play at the bar.

One thing that wasn't discussed was max bet v. slow play. Granted, at a slot machine it won't matter, but for VP players, I've had both CW & bartenders tell me I have to play max bet on my VP machine to get comped drinks. Obviously some folks are more steadfast on that rule, some aren't. I suppose if you're tipping they may "not notice" you're not playing max bet. This of course is relative. Max bet on a single line VP machine is what I meant.

Many, many years ago I was flirting with a CW at Ceasars in Lake Tahoe. Asked her to go out with me when she got off at 2am, it was about 9:30. She told me to let her make a little more in tips then she would sneak off. About 10:30 she did.
I've heard of CWs hiding or greatly slowing down when they think they have made enough for the night. It has to be rare though.

Don't leave us hanging.... do tell more... so how did the date go.....

Just returned from New Orleans this past Monday (forgot why I was there) and spent a multitude of hours in Harrahs.

Cocktail service was excellent around the tables - they had a lovely lady walking around taking drink orders thru a smart phone or tablet. Couple of minutes later, drink-in-hand. Imagine the craziness going on during the week too. Smart concept IMO.

Note:
You ask for anything "on-the-rocks" & you got EXACTLY 1 ounce each time. (many many times too)
BTW, Beer was the drink of choice for many occupants.
