"And what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure."
__ Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith, Paris, 13 Nov. 1787...
Care to quote Jefferson on the proper care and feeding of slaves? Speaking of which, Jefferson wasn't terribly interested in the female liberty tree or the non-land owner liberty tree either, was he? In other words, some 226 year old beliefs don't transfer well to modern times.

These days, about the only people relying on that quote are bitter old men who are upset that they aren't getting their way anymore. And if you seek to justify the threatened murder of our troops or our police, you're just saying democracy be damned, and you are no patriot.

Goodness! forkushV seems to be awfully tightly wound. DonDiego suggests he not jump to unpleasant conclusions so quickly.

"I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over."
__HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

HAL 9000 was a jerk.
I believe that I've seen one officer in my entire life pull his gun. This was at the Golden Nugget, interestingly enough.

The unusual thing at Bundy's ranch wasn't the fact that cops had guns, but the fact they they literally took an agressive stance. That they pulled and pointed their guns. That they implied potential deathly ramifications.

PJ, I have not come to a conclusion which party is at fault, or possibly both parties are at fault. Please see my response below regarding you question "The BLM law enforcement agents have made no public statement threatening to kill Bundy over cows, have they?"

I don't know if they've made threatening statements, but certainly have taken a physically threatening position. Lots of numbers, lots of guns, pointing guns. If someone hasn't threatened me, but then punched me in the nose, do you ask if he threatened me?

Like I said - law enforcement agents are typically armed. Is this something you object too?

Here's a shocker: The deadbeat is also a liar. Turns out Bundy's parents purchased the Bundy ranch in 1948. No cattle until 1954. So much for his ancestral home since the 1870's, huh?

This shouldn't be a surprised. Bundy was a scam like Iraq was a scam like deregulation of Wall Street was a scam like the War on Drugs was a scam, and so on. If you want to get away with a scam, just appeal to some bitter old men who are angry that the country doesn't seem to listen to them anymore.

They always believe what they want to believe.

It'll be interesting to see how much of this rings true. The headline does say "comes under scrutiny".

Apparently, I should have included the "for Dummies" version.

It's fun watching the right wing disassemble over the routine enforcement of property rights.

Cliven Bundy will soon join Joe the Plumber, Herman Cain, Wally George, Katherine Harris, Sarah Palin, Joe McCarthy, Dan Quayle, Orly Taitz, Michelle Bachman, Donald Trump, and Ted Nugent as yet another laughable right-wing buffoon whose ability to briefly stir right-wing paranoic fantasies quickly fades when facts start showing up.

I look forward to helping pay whoever gets the BLM contract to slaughter and market his cattle a few bucks for a nice meal.

And Faux News is part of this problem.

Just yesterday, on one of their shows (can't remember which one....Hannity, OReilly, ect...) was the headline, in bold print that read this:

"REID ATTACKS BUNDY"

In much smaller print below that, were some details concerning the bold print headline.

Now, my problem with that headline is that low IQ right wingers (which make up the majority of Faux viewers) and those that have vision issues, will only see and believe those 3 words in bold capital letters.

And by keeping those 3 words on the bottom of the screen for the duration of the show, Faux fans the hatred of the bitter right wing nutjobs towards Democrats and liberals.

So thereby, Faux has done it's job of pounding this message into the brains of it's Stepford viewers: Bundy is right, lefties are wrong and evil.

Just another day for the "fair and balanced" entertainment network.

How do you know Fox News ran this unless you ACTUALLY WATCH FOX NEWS?
The 1940 US Census shows Bundy's parents and other kinfolk living in Mojave County, ARIZONA. Now even jatki should be able to figure out that he is a fraud, and a freeloader. But I wouldn't bet on it.
