cigarette smoke in casinos

Secondhand smoke article

First off, I don't smoke but I can tolerate it when I visit casinos. My beef is for the casino workers who get exposed to this stuff for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, or whatever amount of time that they have to work their shifts. I know that casino workers can leave if they don't like it and work elsewhere but for the sake of health & safety smoking should be banned from smoking in casinos. Anyone else with me on this?

Edited to add: I should add that I used to smoke myself from 1984 - 1992.
YES !
This is an old issue that isn't going to be settled here or anywhere else for that matter. I always enjoy smoking when I'm gambling, and try to be a courteous smoker when the person next to me doesn't smoke. I'll always ask them iof they mind the smoke, and if they say they do, I'll move my ashtray to the other side. I've never run into the problem where I have to non smokers on each side of me. I guess if I did, I'd have to either stop smoking....or move to another area.
Bagiant, I think it is great that you do look out for other people, but I was playing near a smoker and he was blowing it in my face on purpose, I think he wanted my machine. He is lucky i am not younger because I would have gotten right in his face. This is not a black and white issue but come on make half of every casino smoke-free.
Studies show casinos lose money when smokers have to go outside to smoke. Where are the studies of people, like myself, when it gets smokey I dont gamble, I really don't.

I remember when Silver City in Las Vegas went totally nonsmoking on their casino floor, and their business dropped to almost zero. Many Las Vegas casinos currently have nonsmoking sections on their casino floors. If the demand for such areas was high, one would assume that those areas would be packed. They aren't. The ventilation systems in casinos these days are very affective. Most smokers that I see in casinos are considerate of nonsmokers and table game dealers around them when they are smoking. If a total (unforced) nonsmoking casino was a viable business model for the casino industry, it would be being done all over Las Vegas.
I was a smoker for over 40 years and finally quit 10 years ago. I really don't enjoy sitting next to someone that is

smoking. I live in Ontario Canada and we have a no smoking policy in all our casinos, restaurants and public places.

Guess what - our casinos are very crowded and it did not hurt their business at all when that law came into effect.

I smoked for almost all my life and I when I did smoke I was always considerate of those who didn't smoke and would never sit down at a table and light up w/o asking first. However if I was allready sitting and I was camped in with my drink, smokes ashtry and whatever and someone sat down next to me and started doing that fake >ach ach< cough bullsh!t all bets were off. While I could never bring myself to blow it in there faces, I made no attempt to keep it away from them and might even move the ashtray closer.

That being said, on the last trip to vegas I was wondering about the smoke and how I would deal with it but for a different reason. I was afraid I might be tempted bexause smoke still smells good to me, fresh smoke anyway, you can keep the dirty ashtrays away tho I firmly beleive that smokers have rrights at least within reason, it was ridiculous that I had to hike a mile outside the airport to smoke.

Yes!

I realize that smokers have rights and they do pay a lot of taxes. The problem I find is that many smokers have their smoke blowing in the face of those next to them and they don't get it themselves. Even smokers don't like it blowing in their face. I appreciate curteous smokers. The other issue I have is probably the same discourteous smokers leave their ashes on the machines etc.

Thank you all of you courteous smokers!
I smoked 50 a day for over 30 years .Haven't smoked in over 15 years.
Hate to say it but smokers, who light up next to me REALLY piss me off.
Yeah - I know - I should be more tolerant - but I'm not! - Sorry - can't help it.
The only "rights" smokers have, in my opinion, is to ruin their own health if they are ignorant enough to ignore the facts about smoking. They have no right to allow their filthy addiction to affect other peoples health.
