cigarette smoke in casinos

Hey There

Great thread - we have a ban on smoking in enclosed public areas in the UK. It makes the casinos and bars a mcuh nicer place to be in my opinion. ITs been in force for some years now and everyone I know thinks its a great idea.

Cant see it happening in Vegas for a while but eventually it will come into force.

I've been given up a good 8 years now but the smokers in the casino never bother me other than the cigars - hate them. Overall though it would definately improve my casino play time.

I agree. Smoking should be banned indoors. I have to get up many times because some jerk's smoke is blowing in my face.
OK...enough is enough. Vegas is pretty much the last bastion where "anything" goes. Do we really want that to go away ? I'm 99% sure that anyone who ever came to Vegas knew there would be "over-indulgence" everywhere and that was part of the attraction. Using the philosophy of "what's good for the people" (and we all know how well THAT has worked out...just think government !) here's what must follow:
1. No bacon at any restaurant (very bad for your health).
2. No Buffets...don't want people to over eat and get fat.
(P.S. More people die EVERY year from "obesecity" than smoking...so all whiners should stop eating)
3. No Booze. Highly unhealthy for your liver plus creates a plethora of social problems.
4. No Burlesque ... will corrupt the moral values (and the minds of children)....and speaking of children
5. No Children (Yeaaaaa!). Do you have ANY idea how many will die from "nut" allegies !?!?
6. No Gambling. People will go broke. Lose their houses. Addiction will become rampant.
(Anarchy will surely follow !)
7. No pools or swimming. (Do you have any idea how many 'deadly' viruses and diseases are taken into
the water by people....plus it's a fact that over 70% of people have "pissed" in a pool at some point).
8. No Loud Noises allowed. We don't want to cause hearing loss.
9. No sugar allowed anywhere. Do you have any idea how many people die from diabetes every year !
10. No scented toiletries, flowers, trees, shrubbery ... allergies, allergies, allergies....oh the horror !
11. No anal sex allowed ... people die from AIDS ya know !!!
12. Absolutely NO hotdogs ! Do you know what's in them? Good God !
13. Everyone MUST wear latex gloves. There is more diseases on slots than you can imagine !
14. OH SHIT ! "Update"...no latex allowed. Some people have severe latex reactions.

Do you get the point ?!?!?!?

I find it intriguing that, although the UK casinos are smoke free, someone travels to Vegas (at substanial expense) knowing FULL WELL that there will be smoking and (god forbid) does it anyway ! Then has the gall to say Vegas should be smoke free.

Some people hate smoking. Lots of us hate kids in Vegas. So how about this ? Get rid of all the kids from Disneyland and we'll go there. In the meantime, all smoking" bitchers" go there (There is no smoking !) and none of the smokers will try and change the rules at Disneyland.

To put it "delicately" (?). If you don't like the "house" rules in Vegas PLEASE exercise your "rights" and go the fuck somewhere else and bitch ! Period. End of rant. OUT !

P.S. My wife doesn't smoke (and doesn't like it) but she loves Vegas. She 'understands' what going there will entail. She takes the responsibility for her own actions. Would be most appreciated if all the "whiners" would do the same.
pearlguy- and you can go the f**k somewhere else to rant. Typical smoker, as long as you can do what you want then the hell with everyone else. Your day in the hospital is coming, just see how much of a smartass you are when you are begging for your life.

Whoa "Doctor"... are you saying I have NO right to express MY opinion ?? Just asking ? (Hmmm... crap, I forgot, I have NO rights... ony non-smokers are allowed to express THEIR rights).

You know, perhaps you're right ! Maybe you could get the Constitution to read:

"We the people (well non-smokers anyway) .................... (just a thought ?)

Would REALLY be the "right" thing to do !!

I respect your right to bitch and whine .... please allow me the same "priviledge" . Thank you.
Pearlguy.....all 14 are choices, smoking hurts other people around them. I would never take away the right to smoke but I would give people the right to do all drugs. What they do to themselves should be their choice. But if they did coke and some went up my nose because they blew it in my face, I would also be against that!!!!
My wife said shes all for number 11. It is banned in my house!
Pearlguy- Never said you did not have the right to your opinion. The telling of others to "go the f**k somewhere else and bitch" is and was uncalled for. Expressing your opinion thru your present day actions of continuing to smoke will cause you and your loved ones considerable grief and pain when your body pays the price for your "right" to smoke. Wise up and quit killing yourself.

DonDiego takes issue. #7 is a choice which hurts other people around the perpetrator.

Oh, . . . for future reference DonDiego would request that pearlguy identify the "point" in the pool at which people have pissed.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but the OP asked if anyone AGREED with the suggestion that smoking be banned in Vegas Casinos.

The very first response was ;

But then the pearlguy rant followed telling everyone to go the f*** somewhere else if they didn't like certain things about Vegas - apparently against banning anything in Vegas. I'll assume that includes smoking.

So, just wondering - which is it? For or against?

BTW: I don't smoke & would prefer not to be around smokers, but will happily sit near the considerate smokers on the casino floor and will simply walk away from the inconsiderate ones. I've also noticed that here in BC, just like Diane mentioned in Ontario, we don't allow smoking inside our casinos, restaurants, etc. either and it has not affected business at these places at all! If it was banned in Vegas it wouldn't break my heart.
As for the few non-smoking areas available in Vegas casinos, they always contain the WORST machines to play so I believe most nonsmokers go elsewhere on the floors to gamble. That means we pick our spots a bit more carefully and hope for smokers with manners in the areas we play in. Unfortunately, not everyone understands good manners.
