cigarette smoke in casinos

Here is an interesting question ?

Name two (2) people you know... that the cause of death was listed as "second hand smoke " ?

If ANYBODY can do that...."you're a better man than I Gunga Din" !

Sorta like Al Gore and David Suzuki telling everyone about "global warming" ???

Remember this .... It's ALWAYS about the money !!!

FEAR "sells" .... BIG Time !!
Next thing they're going to want is the "right" to go into a Hookah Lounge without having to deal with the polluted air. Just wait for it.
I'm a non-smoker, and live in Maine where smoking in enclosed public spaces (including casinos) is prohibited. It is nice to come home from a day of gaming and not smell like an ashtray. That said, the smoke would never keep me away from Vegas. I know what to expect, and hang out for hours in the casinos without thinking about it. The only time it really bothers me is when someone (not as considerate as most of you that have commented here) lets the smoke waft into my face or if they're having a really strong cigar. Otherwise, I'm there to gamble and have fun...and that's what I do. k
Smoking sucks for everyone around you but money talks and the casinos will make sure smokers don't have to leave to smoke....

I remember going to a car wash in the San Fernando Vally. It was a very hot day and the smog was horrible. I went outside to watch my car get dried off and decided to have a cigarette. I lit my lighter to see which was the wind was blowing so it would bother the few people that were around me. Most of the people were smart enough to stay inside since it was so hot and smoggy. When I saw the wind blowing away from everyone, I lit my cigarette. A guy was behind me with his young son. He comes up to me and tells me to put my cigarette out as it is bothering his son. I help my cigarette in the air and showed him the smoke wasn't going anywhere near him. I also pointed to the air to show him how smoggy it was, and how could he let his son stay outside when the air was so polluted and his son was breathing it into his lungs. I told him why didn't he go pick on the corporations that were polluting the air instead of picking on one person smoking a cigarette that wasn't even getting near his son! He had no answer to that. I also asked him why he didn't have his son inside with it being so hot and the smog so high. He should have him in an air conditioned building!
I live in Cincinnati and make a short 20 mile drive to the Hollywood Casino ( the old Argosy ) in Indiana to gamble. There is no anti-smoking law in Indiana yet and the state legislature, which is currently considering one has already said casinos will be exempt. They realize the negative impact such a law has on casino revenue.

I quit smoking 14 years ago. Best thing i ever did for myself hands down. Unquestionably saved my life. If Mr. Orme thinks smoking won't kill you, or that second hand smoke isn't bad, he is sadly deluded. I'm very happy it hasn't killed him yet. I hope it never does, but that certainly doesn't mean it doesn't cause the death of many, many others. And by the way, the other poster that wanted an example of someone being listed as having the cause of death second hand smoke? That would usually be CANCER. When i go to the casino i limit my stay due to the amount of smoke in the air and the sore throat it causes me and my wife. Added to that is the rancid smell that permeates our clothing and skin at the end of our visit. A shower before retiring for the night is always required.

None of this was a problem, or even noticed back when i too was a smoker. Of course, i couldn't smell very well then due to being a smoker either, another side effect of smoking.

Anyway, our new casino will open around Feb. of 2013, providing there is no truth to the rumors that the Mayan calendar calls for the end of the world this Dec. 21, and it will be totally smoke free. It will be very interesting to see how this will effect business. While i personally will find it pleasurable, i fear it will have just as negative an impact here as it has had in Illinois and New Jersey. I hope our casino is a success as it is only a ten minute drive from my home and it will be nice to be able to stay as long as i like for a change, but i fear our legislature has placed too many restrictions on it for it to compete with our neighbor in Indiana. Time will tell.

I think that in a perfect world, and i know this is a crazy dream, that casino's should all be two stories high; top floor smoking, bottom non-smoking. Please everyone, send them all home happy.

Crazy huh?

That would be great, but it still wouldn't be good enough for the anti-smoking zealots. They are running radio ads here in Las Vegas about the dangers of smoking by your apartment neighbors. They won't tolerate smoking in the same building.

Insane. You know, Opies' still alive and andy smoked around him. and barney and aunt bee(actually I think francis beauvierdied recently)and many others. Second hand smoke is more bark than bite.

Of course the first part was tongue in cheek.

Your second hand smoke drifts and permeates throughout the entire casino. Designated smoking sections don't work either....that's like saying, "Oh, I see the pool guy just dumped chemicals down on that end of the pool, therefore, to avoid this, I'm going to go swim in the un-chlorinated end pool."

A person's "right" to smoke does not trump public health - EVER.

I don't agree with you. If I see that the smoke blowing in the persons face, or in their general direction, I'll move my ashtray where the smoke isn't blowing their way. I can't help it if the smoke is permeating the whole casino...I can't control that.. I can only control the smoke in my area.

All the anti smoking efforts has left me and my GF with only one option left.

1) It is a casino that allows smoking

2) We respect that we can smoke, and we do, and will

3) We repect others do not, so we do things limit our smoke.

4) When non smokers do not respect our efforts to limit smoke.......

5) We nolonger try to limit our smoke......

6) We smoke like it was ...way back when...

7) Because you did not do # 2 and #3..
