Dancer's Column "May 7th"

His justifying is ridiculous, WE DON'T CARE. Leave the family out of it. But since he did not, basically he is just saying his interests are career >= dancing > marriage, whether true or not. He may be good off of making money at gambling which the outputs are simply money (or entertainment, maybe not for him), but the buck stops there. He tarnished his reputation.

Actually, I have the same reaction every time he writes about square dancing. Really.

Dancer frequently writes about personal issues. In his autobiography he included details about various failures in his life, bankruptcy, girlfriends, and about bribing change girls and selling comps when he first started out. He's probably written over 600 columns, and they weren't all about what to do when you get a suited Ace-Ten. (By the way, you almost always toss them.) And occasionally, he's written about very personal information relating to himself, his family, and others.

It may not be what you would write about, and it definitely wouldn't be my style, but so what? It's what he cares about - which is the first job of any creative person - and he's developed a substantial following. And that following has gotten to know him fairly well, and likely appreciates the personal details...otherwise they wouldn't be following him, would they?

I doubt if any of those here dumping on him read his column regularly or have ever read his autobiography. And some people here are even arrogant enough to think that they can fill in the blanks and say exactly what happened, as if in nine paragraphs or 900, you could really know the truth about a relationship. And come to think of it, those kind of people probably keep suited Ace-Ten, because for them, their own intuition overrules everything.

Me, I'll toss the Ace-Ten, and do my best not to judge the people who do otherwise. And I'll try not to judge any "walk a mile in my shoes" situations like this one. I think it took guts for Bob Dancer to write this column, and I look forward to his next one. As long as it isn't about square dancing.

You make a good point.

I don't read his columns and haven't read his book. I thought he was primarily a gambling writer. If he's long written about the intimate details of his marriage, maybe it's fair that he did it again this week now that it's over.

Not something I'll keep reading, however.
Some things I really don't need to know about you or anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since "Bob Dancer" and "Shirley" are both pseudonyms, he could have kept most of this to himself. People who read his books and columns (and I stopped years ago when the term "obey the math" rubbed me the wrong way) are probably more interested in improving their play than in keeping up with "Bob's" personal life. Considering the hypercritical nature of online assemblages, writing this column was probably a mistake.

I think the only reason he wrote this is because he was showing up at casinos with a different woman, and was getting dirty looks from people who knew that he was married. I think he somehow thinks that the column will now stop the dirty looks. I really question his judgment.
Bob likes to create controversy and stimulate discussion about his topics. I'd say he's succeeded remarkably in this case.
I see & yes sir Anthony he hit this one out of the park. He went yard with this one (lol).
Except he made a complete fool of himself and anybody who publishes his trash with this one.

I guess that's why he writes so frequently about resort fees, the Strip vs. Downtown, Alan Singer, and how much to tip after a royal. Right?
