Do people still use cash?

Credit cars are fine as long as you pay the balance every month. Problem is they get lots of folks in trouble as they overspend what they can really afford. Dr friend and his wife use a discovery card for everything, they get a cash rebate. Not sure if it is yearly or what.
I carry lots of cash (well to me anyway) but use my debit card more and more for purchases. To me, cash is still king.
Cash is very necessary!!!

How else are you going to bribe a government official?
Oh yeah, still use cash. Put big ticket items on a credit card....and know we can afford them, pay the bill in full.
We've had a Discover card since 1986 and have NEVER paid a late fee or finance charge. Hey, I'm an accountant and money is my game!
Debit cards...make sure you have enough money in a checking or savings a/c to cover spending. This is how my sister got in trouble. She and her hubby were using the debit cards...no one recording the usage in the checking a/c.
The worst thing I've seen is a commercial for loans from a Native American lending agency. Borrow $10,000.00, the interest rate is over 89%...loan payments over $700.00 for 84 months. They stress the fact that it is a Native American agency. Now that is really sad. This is why I will never step foot in an Indian casino.

I use mainly cash. The only thing I charge to my credit card is my gas, and large ticket items. I receive

Aeroplan miles for my gas and whatever large purchases I make. Have gone to Arizona every year since the

fall of 2004 and used air miles for the two tickets. Mind you prices have gone up considerably since we

started but still cheaper than buying two tickets.

Haven't seen that ad, but I agree, if true that's awful.

Wait, what?

You blame all Indian Casinos for some ad you saw??? Who do you blame for this week's shootings in Wisconsin?

I use a PayPal debit card for just about everything I can. Even $1.00 items. I receive 1.5% cash back on every purchase, and welcome the discount reward. It is rare when I pay cash for a purchase.

That 1.5% is paid monthly, and really adds up for me at the end of the year. My only regular cash expense is public transportation or the occasional taxi.

As a side note, my "normal" pocket cash is almost always somewhere between $240.00 - $500.00 since I play poker 4- 7 times per week. Of course, I also have ATM cards just in case I need more cash for larger games. If/when I go grocery shopping, etc, I leave the $100 bills at home and go with much less.

I just finished rolling my loose change jar (nickels, pennies, dimes and quarters) that I have accumulated since my Vegas trip last September. Grand total $93.00. Plus, I have dipped into that jar a few times over the past year pulling out quarters when absolutely broke. Not bad, I think. Of course, that $93 will be fodder for the slots in the very near future.
A couple of years ago, I found myself going to work with thousands of dollars in my pocket. After all, I was in the Vista courthouse most of the time surrounded by Sheriff's Deputies, so what was there to worry about. But then after thinking about it, I really didn't need to work around with that kind of money unless I was in Vegas. So I cut it down to no more than $300 in my pocket while going to work. I usually charge my groceries to my debit card so I can keep track of how much I'm spending on the household. I pay all my bills online except for the water bill which doesn't give you the option of paying online, so I pay it in person!
Here in southeast Michigan, gas stations charge 10 cents more per gallon of gas if you use a credit card.
So cash it is. Otherwise its a Speedway MC to pay for things and get those rewards.
It drives me nuts, but my wife insists on using cash for our family trips. This usually means we're hauling around $1500 in cash with us for a week. Paying for gas with cash is a complete pain in the ass.

She claims it makes the bookkeeping part of it easier for her.
