FCC votes to consider lifting in-flight cell phone ban

In- flight cell phone ban, should it be lifted?

Thoughts?

I have no desire to sit next to someone using a cell phone while in flight.
I'd be in favor of allowing texting and email during flights - communicating is communicating.

The dreaded loud talkers would obviously be the annoying thing. Maybe limit the calls to a maximum of 5 minutes with a common courtesy review of speaking at a normal conversational volume.
I can't stand the people who are talking loud on them up to the point they are asked to shut them off. There is enough air rage already. This is just asking for fights to start.
Putting the airplane safety concerns aside, I also do not want to sit next to a cell phone user. Their usage of a cell phone would infringe upon my rights to enjoy my flight. I also have no desire to hear about their troubles, their problems (real or imagined), who is doing what to who, etc. Just another example of the minority wanting to have their way while infringing upon the rights of the majority.

They can't do this. Chilcoot said it's not safe.

I think we're safe - for now. Seated next to a Chatty Kathy and/or Ken for three hours would result in either a homicide charge or a DB Cooper dive from the plane for me.
So what's the real difference between a passenger talking on a cell phone, talking to his next seat neighbor, screaming crying kids and people like me mumbling to themselves and occasionally singing the macarena song?
Alanleroy asks-- "So what's the real difference between a passenger talking on a cell phone, talking to his next seat neighbor, screaming crying kids and people like me mumbling to themselves and occasionally singing the macarena song?" Alan, if you have to ask then any logical responses would be lost on you.

Cell phone talkers tend to be much louder than 2 people talking to each other. Screaming kids tend to be a function of the parents not bringing enough toys/books etc to entertain them on the flight.

That all depends on the talker. I see nothing wrong with people talking on cellphones on an airplane...if they aren't 'yelling'. It increases their productivity and it's none of your business whether they talk to their wife in the next seat or their wife back in Peoria. If you want quiet on airplane just bring earplugs...problem solved.
