FCC votes to consider lifting in-flight cell phone ban

Maybe this is why they used to make the old sky phones so expensive. Anybody who used them wanted to be sure to keep their conversation short or they would have to pay a small fortune for the phone call.

Absolutely against paving the way for the mouthy cell users. There's an Indian huy in our clinic who I think doesn't beleive people can actually hear him through this device or what so must talk as loudly as he possibly can, but it disrupts the entire clinic and the techs have to repeatedly tell him to tone it down. There's one other Spanish guy who isn't quite as bad, but still pretty loud.
It's the same in restaurants, nothing like having some mouthy lady(or man) carrying on a conversation as loudly as they possibly can.

Someone asked, what's the difference of a screaming baby? You can't regulate a baby or anything else for that matter and when is the last time anyone here enjoyed having a screaming baby in the seat behind them, Anyone? ...Anyone?

J
I can remember a flight from Denver to L.A. The minute they closed the door to the plane, the baby cried for the whole two hour flight. Nobody was happy.

One airline has put in the rule that babies are not allowed to travel in First Class.
How did we ever survive without cell phones?

Why just fine thank you. Except we did it much quieter, with a LOT less rudeness, and with a lot less carple tunnel syndrome problems.

Leave the damn things off for a couple hours please. You'll manage.

Yes, yes we did
Do they outlaw talking on cell phones on Busses? On Trains? NO...of course not...because there is no safety issue. Just like they know there is no real safety issue talking on cell phones in-flight. If you don't like Cell Phone talkers, there are a number of things you can do. You can buy earplugs. You can learn how to focus on your own stuff and not get your panties all in a wad over what someone else is saying. That's what I do.

When I travel for business, I try to work from the minute I get on to the minute we land. I often dictate to a voice recorder in a lowered voice. I imagine drmilled would take that away from me as he pursues his big Government Liberal, regulate what the people do, Nanny State agenda.

Cell Phones have helped us become more productive and lord knows anything this country can do to get things done cheaper, faster and better will help us be more competitive in the world economy. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be banned....that's the Nanny State in action. Why can't you just ignore it?

As a compromise, maybe they can have sections for Cell Phone Talkers non Cell Phone Talkers.
Typical liberal thought process at work- if I can't have my way then I will whine and cry till you give in. Enough is enough. You cell phone talkers have no clue just how LOUD you are and, as I stated before, I don't care to be privy to your conversation. Just shut up for a while- you might actually enjoy the peace and quiet. I know that those who are forced to sit next to you will appreciate your silence.

You're the whiner. You're the one that wants to prevent people from communicating. Liberal? Less regulation is Liberal? Who'd of thunk it? Well, I guess in the classic definition of Liberty it is, but not in the current vernacular.

I guess drmilled's support of smaller government and fewer regulations only extends to things he personally likes or dislikes. I call that hypocritical. If you're looking for 'peace and quiet' maybe you should just stay home or learn to deal with it....but not by restricting other'choices. I suggested a reasonable compromise of separate sections for Talkers and Non Talkers, but that idea is ignored in favor whining and crying. What irony.

So would the good dr support banning cell phones on Busses? On Trains? Restaurants? Where does it end? The Mall? The sidewalk? My car (as a passenger)? My house? It's a slippery slope. You should know that.

alan- - - As I said, if the liberal does not get his way he whines and cries. Just because YOU want something does not mean everyone else does. Prior to cell phones, this was not an issue. Now that you have a cell phone you want everyone to accept YOUR new right to use your cell phone where ever and when ever you want, everyone else be dammed. As for your liberal method of bringing other, non flying modes of transportation into the discussion, let me remind you we are talking about cell phone use on airplanes. Just as I do not buy an airline ticket with the expectation of sitting next to a possibly overly large person, or an unwashed person, or a crying kid,or a drunk- I certainly do not expect to be stuck sitting next to a cell phone user whose talking is bothersome. As for purchasing ear plugs goes, why can't you turn off your phone for the duration of a flight? You are right about one thing about me, I enjoy the peace and quiet I have experienced for years while flying. You and your ilk seem to care less how your demands affect others. If you don't like the cell phone ban, then YOU can take another form of transportation. Then you can talk all you want and both of us will be happy.
Doc really told off our resident wet-the-bed liberal AlanLeroy. Lol
