Get This! LA Banning Plastic Bags AND......

If California wants to pay their bills all they have to do is ban illegals from living in California at the expense of tax paying U. S. citizens.
"Things change." - David Mamet.
We have used cloth bags for several years. They are pretty easy to obtain for free, they hold more, and they are much less likely to break. One grocery store gives us a 5-cent discount. What's not to like? Using them also saves oil and/or other resources. Just remember to put meat items into the thin plastic bags and to wash the cloth bags occasionally.

Or be a moron and inisist upon your right to consume whatever you wish and not pay for it.
Get this!! If you are on welfare and recieving food stamps you are exempt from the 10 cent a bag charge. Stick to the honest guy!!! California sucks!

I think I remember reading that cloth bags retain bacteria.

I also remember that when plastic bags started, they were better than paper because they saved the trees
Los Angeles has thousands of problems that are far, far more important than banning plastic bags and paper bags. First of all, people are under the impression that most paper comes from natural woodlands. It isn't. It comes from trees that are grown specifically for making paper, kind of the same concept as Christmas tree farms. Secondly, plastic bags are recyclable.

Unless you launder your cloth bag after each and every time you carry meat, especially chicken or turkey, you run the real risk of a bacteria transfer to other foods.

Wow.Didn't know they made bags out of silicone. What will they think of next!
I think the bottom line is that the supermarkets are going to save millions of dollars over the years by not having to buy plastic bags. Seems that all these companies think about is the bottom line. I wonder who was really behind this idiotic move.
While it is a rev generator Its also a litter issue, at least it was in DC when they passed something similar. I tend to agree with the enviromentalists here, those fricken' plastic bags seem to be everywhere. When you see them on the banks of streams and in ditches, its pretty disgusting. Drive down in some parts of DC and you can see them all over the place, really trashy looking.
If its actually true that the welfare types are exempt, thats just F'd up.

Well you won't be agreeing when they ban the sale of the heavy-duty, extra-thick plastic you use for your Food Saver machine.
