The Government Has Shut Down [01OCT2013]

It looks like the democrats are having the tantrum

1- obama skips his weekend golf game
2- obama chooses to extend the same courtesy to Republicans as he does to Iran - negotiate
3- the senate stays in session for the weekend
4- the senate agrees to a conference to hammer out a deal
5- the senate agrees to not take the their obamacare exemption
6- the senate agrees to provide individuals the same same 1 year delay that businesses received

Gotta love number 2 - you are now equating the Republicans with one arm of the "Axis of Evil." Isn't it funny how truth pops up in the strangest places?

This is what the democrats could have done to avert this

Oh my that's a long list. Here, I've got a shorter one:

1. Allow an up or down vote in the House of Representatives.

You know, majority rules, just like a democracy. And like grown-ups. Boehner won't allow it, because he knows too many actually sane Republicans would vote to end the shutdown. And at $300 million per day, it's an expensive tantrum.

Or the irony that obama bends over backwards to negotiate with Iran but would rather play golf than make a phone call to negotiate with his govt.

Just another in the long list of examples of "Change you can believe in." I hope you bleeding heart liberals and idiotic whack jobs are proud of your fearless leader's ongoing dismantling of the United States.

My memory seems to recall that the Obamacare health bill, that passed both houses of Congress, signed by the President and now stands as a law, was a result of a great deal of negotiation on the part of Obama and the Democrats. It is not the plan they started out with given that it still leaves health care as a for profit business run by faceless industry bureaucrats ( I agree that a government system would also be run by faceless bureaucrats, but at least they would not receive bonuses based on profit margins).
Negotiation time is over. Let's move on.

Govt employees also get bonuses
Atlantic City casinos are likely full of furloughed employees this week.

Not the government I work for.
No bonuses for good work, just more work.
No pay raises for the last 5 years either. *

*I do perhaps need to correct this statement, based on your definition of a pay raise. One of our illustrious state legislators said that the State's employees did get a pay raise this year since we were not forced to take unpaid furlough days (5-10 annually over the last few years).
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A new federal payroll database obtained by WUSA9 and the Asbury Park Press shows $105 billion in federal wages including $332 million in 2012 bonuses and identifies the government's biggest payouts going to workers who deal with natural disasters.
The searchable database shows individual payroll records for fiscal year 2012, including some bonuses, for about three out of four government workers.

The figures, obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests to the Office of Personnel Management indicate the federal government has trimmed its bonus program since 2011, but they don't represent a full disclosure of government bonuses.

In FOIA responses to WUSA9, OPM has acknowledged it doesn't include all bonuses information because it considers an unknown amount of bonuses to be protected from disclosure under agency guidelines.
The Asbury Park Press estimates the numbers include about 73% of government workers, but excludes Department of Defense, CIA, FBI, Congress, The White House and some security agencies
