Government Shutdown Was Planned Months Ago

A WSJ poll reports that as of today 60% of voters want to fire all of congress.

The American public is dissatisfied with all the elected folks. They are not just miffed at one party or one person. The whole thing is a mess.

Great post Snidely.

I am not sure anyone caters to the underprivileged which is a shame considering we are rapidly shedding middle class folks and creating more underprivileged folks everyday. For example if Obama were catering the underprivileged:

1. His favorite proposal wouldn't be to raise the age of SS eligibility and cut benefits by using a chained CPI as SS has already been wacked once and pegged to an index that doesn’t keep pace with inflation. It doesn’t need to be wacked again.
2. He wouldn't have kicked poor old folks off heating assistance in the winter.
3. Obamacare would be front end loaded with benefits instead of back end loaded with benefits to Pharmaceutical Companies, Large Hospital Holding Companies and the Medical Insurance Industry. Indeed the underprivileged are left with very high out of pocket costs.
4. He wouldn't want to lower corporate income taxes.

Other than a handful of Congress Critters nobody in either party is fighting for the underprivileged or even the middle class.

Amen!Seems we are slowly turning into a third world country. If we keep electing republicans,we will be.
The author of the Government Shutdown Petition is Congressman Mark Meadows of North Carolina. He is (among other things) an unapologetic birther and debt-default-denier.
Mark Meadows greatest hits

Now here's the interesting thing. Word out of Washington is Meadows petition is no longer the focus of the shutdown negotiations. Its..."something else". We don't know what that "something else" is just yet. But in the meantime Republicans will keep the US Federal government shutdown until they can think of a good reason why they're doing it.

By the way snidely, thanks for the Wall Street deregulation. Now there's a libertarian policy that worked out well!

And with the current unprecedented concentration of wealth in the US, according to libertarian theory, wealth should all be trickling down to the rest of us right about...now. Otherwise, all that Trickle Down stuff has been proven to be a fraud.

But they do want to legalize pot, and they don't claim that gayness makes baby jesus cry, so libertarians aren't all bad.

So Reid and McConnell will get together to discuss the terms of the Republican surrender and McConnell will get on his hands a knees a beg Reid to bail the Republicans out of the mess they created by giving them sort of worthless token concessions. This is now the endgame.

But the real interesting thing to see will be when it gets sent to the House as I bet the tea drinkers there will vote it down. At that point the Republican party is Dead.

Since when do facts actually matter in the mind of the vast majority of voters? A few obamaphones later, you know how each party is perceived.
My that is an interesting example. The Obama Phone you speak of originated with none other than Conservative hero Ronald Reagan in 1984. It originally only covered land lines. It was expanded in 2008 under GW Bush to cover mobile phones. The primary beneficiary of the program was América Móvil a Mexican telecommunications firm that is one of the largest corporations in the world. Its founder has over 70 billion dollars in assets. This GW Bush program paid América Móvil some 450 million dollars a year to fund the program. Now here was the real master stroke behind the plan:

Republican operatives fearing that it was going to be discovered that a conservative plan was funding a Mexican billionaire and embarrass their candidate in the 2012 election leaked a story to conservative media outlets that Obama was giving free cell phones to welfare recipients to buy their votes. Of course all the conservatives bought it without question because it fed their preconceived and somewhat racist notions about our black president showering underprivileged blacks with free stuff.

So there you have it Republicans shower a Mexican Billionaire with an orgy of wealth and then manage to scapegoat the underprivileged and Obama thereby covering up their own malfeasance. It amazes me the amount of people that still believe this a couple of years later when the facts are so easy to check. Big Corporations and Billionaires are laughing all the way to the bank at how gullible the sheep are.

People who use the phrase "Obamaphones," either from the right or the left, are misinforming the public, aren't they? So if that describes you snidely, you're part of the problem.
