Has anyone cut the cord on cable?

Due to finances and the crazy price increases of my Verizon service and Comcast I am going to start my journey into going cable-less. I purchased The Mohu Leaf Plus amplified indoor antennae and a Panasonic Blue ray 3d DVD player with built in WiFi and streaming apps. I watch 95% TV vs. movies. I am going to miss my local sports as 98% of the local sports in the Philly market are broadcasted on cable. I'm probably going to use Verizon for internet only, as Comcast and Verizon service after the initial special are basically the same price. Clear internet is available here but it's WiFi service and I'm a little leary about trying that for streaming video to my HD Tv. I'd love to read about anyone's experience with giving up on cable and what they used. Satellite isn't an option for me because that would be about another $40 added to the cost of the internet. I'm probably going to try Hulu Plus to stream TV.
I'm sticking with cable for now.
I called comcast and said I was considering Verizon. They knocked $40 month off my bill for bringing up the V word.
I have never had cable or dish. Over the air is the best price - FREE.

I did a similar thing. I have Dish and my receiver stopped working. I called them and was told I had to wait for one to be sent to me. This was a Sat. and Mon. was a holiday, so I was looking at a Thurs. delivery.
I wasn't very happy and asked why there wasn't a place I could come pick one up. They said they only carried them on the truck for new installation. I told them to go ahead and send me a new receiver.
I then called Direct TV and asked when they could hook me up as a new customer, they said by the end of the day. I told them I would call them right back.
I called Dish back and told them I was cancelling my service and to not send the new box. I told them DTV was more than happy to come out and hook me up.
Dish had a truck at my house within 1 hour with a new box.

I have Time-Warner. I call about every 6 months to complain about the price and they give me the promotional price for another 6 months.
I have the most basic cable package available. I used to have every channel and then I switched to Netflix and basic cable. No cable box and no dvr. Fortunately for me the Bucs and the Rays are available to me. If it wasn't for college football I most definitely would cut the cord.

I wonder if you could get you sports over the web and then hook up to your TV. I know brighthouse here in Tampa has an app for tablets. I wonder if you had a tablet with an hdmi output if something like that would work for you.

I will say between Netflix and Ooma (internet telephone) I have cut my bill in half.
Have had the itch to convert to Direct TV, but there is local programming I would miss
Amazing all the free over-the-air channels you can get with an antenna. Most TV stations in the new Digital age are running several sub-channels: RTV, ThisTV, AntennaTV, etc.

I live in an apt so Dish or Direct TV is out of the question for me. I need to have my ESPN, Fox sports, & CNBC and these are all on cable ($60 a month). I would like to cut the cable but there are no other alternatives unless someone knows of some other way around it.
Its getting pretty tempting to stop watching TV all together.

Oh, but I'm on pins-n-needles to see Chef Ramsey in yet another show where he talks smack for 60 minutes. And whats that you say? Another "talent-series" with washed-up celebrity judges fresh out of rehab? And over on channel 145 they have a new dysfunctional detective whose personal problems are dwarfed only by his uncanny ability to solve mysteries.
