Has anyone cut the cord on cable?

I've had DirecTv for 8 years now and I love it compared to cable.

BTW, the NFL Channel will be televising the Hall of Fame game on Sunday evening. Hopefully your cable company carries the NFL Channel.

We've had directv since it first came out. Loved it for years then it seemed the bills(what they were charging us, auto-pay) was kinda all over the place. I called to bitch and ask WTH was up and the guy was kissing my ass, gave us a few free months and all the premimium channels minus HBO to placate me. The wife called on another matter and they chipped in HBO. So i'm on the fence wether to get rid of DTV and get basic cable.
We pay about close to a hundred bucks a month for the package thats a step up from basic DTV. Trust me, they nickel and dime you. You gotta lease every box, the you pay if you want local channels and oh JOY!, wife looking up bill right now and its 149 bucks! WTF!? Guess time to call them again.

J beware abd keep a close eye on your bill.

UPDATE; That was for 2 months and a credit. Our reg. mth bill is SUPPOSED to be 89 bucks a month. We'll see if they keep it that way now that they know we're watching.
We have directv and have for years, at least 12 and love it. Tried a switch to cable for about 3 months when we bought a new house. The reception sucked. We had service people out almost very week to try to fix it. Finally one just told us we we were the last house on the drop and to just get satellite. Called that day to sign back up with dtv.

I live in an apt so Dish or Direct TV is out of the question for me. I need to have my ESPN, Fox sports, & CNBC and these are all on cable ($60 a month). I would like to cut the cable but there are no other alternatives unless someone knows of some other way around it.

The apt. complexes around me allow Dish or Direct TV. If your balcony does not face the correct way, they put the dishes on the roof.

Yeah I wish I could install DirecTV but my building won't allow it. I would be delighted to get the NFL ticket/network as Roulette Man describes. I'm considering purchasing online the $19.99 all preseason access beginning with the hall of fame game this Sunday night.
Blade are you cable/satellite free? As I wrote a satellite dish isn't an option for me. I'm looking to use an indoor amplified antennae (Leaf Plus) plus an internet provider and streaming service. Should cost around $70/month.
I switched from cable to DirecTV in 1996 when my local cable company refused to carry PPV programing that I wanted to buy. DTV kept jacking up pricing for the package I had from day one to the point that I dropped it in 2007. Rabbit ears ever since that point. When the digital converters became required equipment for local broadcast reception, I was surprised to find out that the converter provided three times as many channels. That would have been really cool if I spoke Spanish or wanted 5 PBS channels. Still, I don't have any plans to move back to cable or satellite. It just isn't worth the cost to me.
Agreed Bob. I'm still playing with my set-up. I probably pick up over 20 stations but many are infomercial and Spanish language stations. Do you use any of the streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu/Hulu Plus. It cracks me up. Both services offer free 7 day trials. How am I going to know if I like them in just 7 days!
You forgot all of the "housewives shows" Jersey Shore and all of the other pieces of shit that show people that you detest and pray you never encounter. Yep that is what todays youth watch and idolize.

Thank God for sports and Netflix.

Its getting pretty tempting to stop watching TV all together.

Oh, but I'm on pins-n-needles to see Chef Ramsey in yet another show where he talks smack for 60 minutes. And whats that you say? Another "talent-series" with washed-up celebrity judges fresh out of rehab? And over on channel 145 they have a new dysfunctional detective whose personal problems are dwarfed only by his uncanny ability to solve mysteries.

Honey, where's the checkbook? We're getting the platinum package!

I'm stuck with cable. I live in the end of a valley and the hills block almost all local reception via antenna. Checked out satellite, but they couldn't get the angle for the satellite because of the hills. Can't win them all.
