How Can Someone Do This To Themself?

Here's a real headscratcher, and relax, it has nothing to do with Obama.

I read the Advisor columns often and I just read the latest shannagans of Bob Dancer, courtesy of Bob Dancer. Looking for and finding a way to cheat a motel out of paying for breakfast? Stealing fruit and avacados to take home to save a few bucks? Huh? What kind of person who is well known in the gaming community, even needs to tell anyone anywhere about such humiliating feats of cheapness? Kind of puts his ex-wife Shirley's misgivings about the guy into perspective. How is something like this even possible?
I also read and pondered at his aplomb and his rationale. He truly is a twisted piece of work.
Agree 100%. This is the stuff he ADMITS to in a public blog, imagine what really goes on.
Bob Dancer wrote (We had actually packed a considerable number of apples, oranges, and avocados which we mostly brought back home with us.)

It sounds like he brought these from home and didn't eat them because he stole the food at the hotel. He supposedly has made and gambled a gazillion dollars playing VP. Not to mention the money he earns from software and seminars. He is comped pretty much everywhere he stays and then we he springs for a $60.00 hotel room he has to steal a breakfast and he admits to it.

I was a lowly firefighter and I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that was less than $100.00 a night, outside of Vegas that is). This guy supposedly is a big time gambler and he has to sweat paying $60.00 or $70.00 for a hotel room and then he has to steal breakfast and on top of all that pack his own fruit.

None of this adds up to me. He is either full of you know what or he is certifiable.

It's a poor reflection on LVA to employ such a scoundrel.
I thought this thread was gonna be about a nesalk sighting

And Jean Scott recommends pocketing extra food from the buffet. Obviously, LVA is a den of thieves.

What Dancer did was wrong, and under the same circumstances, I would have tried to find someone to pay the ten dollars to, or at least added it to my tip. But having said that, I used to buy cheap tickets to the Hollywood Bowl all the time, consult the Ticketmaster chart to locate the unsold seats, and then move up to the better ones. And I think I even bragged about it once on this board. And you know that FBI warning about not copying DVDs? I always avert my eyes.

That Dancer swiped the food isn't that remarkable; that he copped to it is. I think Dancer is showing off, not about his behavior, but that he is one of the very few people who can be honest about his dishonesty. Because everyone does this shit to some degree, and usually for more than ten dollars.

At the end of the article Dancer recommends the book, "The Honest Truth About Dishonesty, How We Lie to Everyone - Especially Ourselves" by the brilliant and very funny Duke professor Dan Ariely. I took Ariely's behavioral economics course through Coursera a few months ago, and one of the main points his research has shown is that everyone lies and everyone cheats. Absolutely everyone, at least a little bit. And that goes triple for the moralists who point fingers.*

*That last sentence is not from Ariely's research, but from my personal observations.
Fork, I don't believe anyone is pointing fingers, just commenting on what was done. I happen to believe the majority of people wouldn't purposely cheat or do anything unethical. We were brought up like that, and we know that SOMEONE somewhere will hurt in some way if we did. It just isn't right. In this instance, this is the same personality who bragged on a divorce born out of a lack of compassion for his spouse, then he trotted off with her bff and blew a big horn on that one too. One really does have to wonder very seriously if this man hasn't been supplying a good amount of wool for all of our eyes for so many years.
I agree that everyone cheats. It's the degree that makes all the difference. To me, Bob Dancer is beyond what I find tolerable. And that's based just on the stuff he ADMITS.
Oh, i dunno, if a hotel charges me $10 to use their crappy, first generation wifi ...I probably wouldn't lose much sleep over stealing one of their avocados
