How Can Someone Do This To Themself?

That's really funny.

But it's also related. What people object to with nesalk is not so much what he does, but that he admits to it. In this case, same with Bob Dancer. Personally, I'd trust both of them before I would trust anyone who brags about their virtue. (But I'd only shake hands with Dancer.)

It's a poor reflection on LVA to employ such a scoundrel.
And Jean Scott recommends pocketing extra food from the buffet. Obviously, LVA is a den of thieves.

What Dancer did was wrong, and under the same circumstances, I would have tried to find someone to pay the ten dollars to, or at least added it to my tip. But having said that, I used to buy cheap tickets to the Hollywood Bowl all the time, consult the Ticketmaster chart to locate the unsold seats, and then move up to the better ones. And I think I even bragged about it once on this board. And you know that FBI warning about not copying DVDs? I always avert my eyes.

That Dancer swiped the food isn't that remarkable; that he copped to it is. I think Dancer is showing off, not about his behavior, but that he is one of the very few people who can be honest about his dishonesty. Because everyone does this shit to some degree, and usually for more than ten dollars.

At the end of the article Dancer recommends the book, "The Honest Truth About Dishonesty, How We Lie to Everyone - Especially Ourselves" by the brilliant and very funny Duke professor Dan Ariely. I took Ariely's behavioral economics course through Coursera a few months ago, and one of the main points his research has shown is that everyone lies and everyone cheats. Absolutely everyone, at least a little bit. And that goes triple for the moralists who point fingers.*

*That last sentence is not from Ariely's research, but from my personal observations.

You point your fingers more than anyone on this board, so all I can say is...how dare you judge me!

Stealing fruit and avacados to take home to save a few bucks? Huh?

It seemed like a stupid article .......... and I don't always agree with what Bob Dancer says or does.

That being said, I would imagine that after years of writing,
it must be hard to come up with something interesting to write about.
It's not like being a sports writer where there are different seasons, constant games, rivalries, etc.

Also in Bob's defense, I don't think he stole "fruit and avacados".
If I understood it correctly, I think he was saying that they brought them with them and then took then back home.

Rick
I have to agree with most of the replies on this thread.

I also don't know if Mr. Dancer has thought this through.

If I am this so called noted expert and author on the subject of Video Poker and I make a lot of money from playing and my works, then why would I ever want to publicly admit stealing petty items from a motel?

It only goes to make people have to wonder if he his dishonest in his other claims.

He's not so much an expert on VP, as he is an expert on taking advantage of situations in sometimes a less than moral way. He's learned how to game the system and I don't have any problem with most of what he writes about VP but you can't apply the same rules of the game to a motel. The casinos don't assume you'll act in an honorable way. The know you can't trust gamblers but the motel... The motel assumes you'll act honorably and not have the breakfast if you didn't pay for it.

If you paid a $20 for crappy wifi then you can steal an avocado to make up for it. That's fair.
"Scoundrels." "Thieves." I say polarizing. Thought provoking. Our new one is beyondnumbers.lvablog.com, by Jame Grosjean. Got to read 'em.
Been out for a month and only 75 views. I look forward to his wisdom in the future!
I think the only rational response to this thread is that I would not invite Mr. Dancer nor anyone that agrees with his lifestyle into my home. I have too many tempting items for someone too easily upset such as him.

Just saying.
