That neither Wynn nor Encore got AAA 5 Diamond, but BOTH Venetian and Palazzo did?

Why are they douchebags?

I would stay in either of their hotels before all the chain choices the Vegas strip has turned into. I insist on the strip or GN downtown.
We used to love P.Ho. before it joined the ranks.

I agree though, that Stevie is pretty upset about not getting the 5th diamond.

I tend not to use the word "douchebag," and I could never use that term on the person who revitalized the Golden Nugget (and downtown), and revitalized the Strip with the Bellagio and the Mirage.

But Mr. Wynn has nothing but good things to say about the Communist Chinese with their confiscatory tax rates and their crushing totalitarian government. Having sold his soul so publicly to the Peoples Republic, he really should have the self-awareness to avoid commenting on governance in his own country.

So perhaps "whore" is a better word.

I started getting the occasional mailer from Venetian/Pallazzo about a year after I got the call the day before my trip telling me they would no longer comp my stay, but I was welcome to pay the casino rate. The mailer has been for 3 nights at either P or V depending on availability and the last one included some free play, I think about $200. And there is always some sort of "Hey you haven't stayed with us for a while" type wording. Anyway, if I get a mailer that includes dates on my upcoming trip, I think I want to call and ask them how do I know they won't pull that last minute not comped anymore stunt with me again.

Anyway, even with that rant, I have stayed at Venetian, Palazzo, and Encore, and I just enjoyed staying at Palazzo more than at Encore. My Encore room didn't live up to the hype. I was quite underwhelmed. I also prefer the V/P dining options to those at Wynncore

Great competition between those two multi-star places.... we the customers are the winners.

Besides, they may actually be nice guys once you get to know them. If I run across them in a bar, I'd buy them a drink.

Palazzo/Venetian vs. Wynn/Encore, two culinary heavyweights. It's always been a toss up for me, but since Okada and Boulud closed, two of my favorite restaurants in Vegas, I am slightly in the arena of V/Palazzo. A new dummied down version of Okada has opened, but now if I want 5 stars Japanese, I would prefer to spend my $$ at Shibuya.

Oh, let me 'splain

Both men are casino giants that have properties in both Las Vegas and Maccau. In both instances their properties make billions in profit for their respective corporations each year ...and this is due in large part to the hard work and service of their employees.

But in both cases, billions of dollars in profit is not enough. The Maccau properties employ a workforce that is paid peanuts compared to their Las Vegas counterparts... and the Maccau folks are forbidden by law to collectively bargain for things like paid vacation time, better healthcare, and better wages.

Both Shelden Adelson (net worth 20 billion) and Steve Wynn (net worth 2.5 billion) have made it very clear they favor a similar employment model here in the US where their employees can currently bargain for the things mentioned. Their objections to their US employees have been very passionately voiced over the past several years.

So why are they douchebags? Well, its a subjective word. I call any billionaire wishing to increase his mammoth wealth further by stripping his modest employees' wages and benefits a douchebag. In fact, I call would call him a greedy douchebag. Hows that?
