I just don't see this fast food worker being worth $15/hr(non-Vegas)

Nice theory but there isn't enough jobs for them to do so, and the trend is only getting worse as only lower paying jobs are being created while higher paying jobs are still disappearing. Simply put your simplistic talking point doesn't work when the rubber meets the road so to speak.

Not so it all. I believe the ditch digger should be paid a wage that allows him or her to live a life free of government assistance not that he or she should be paid the same as a brain surgeon. $15 an hour is roughly $31k a year a brain surgeon I suspect makes 500k to upwards of a million. In other words I am asking them to be paid 6% of the wage of a brain surgeon on the bottom end of brain surgeons.

We have lots of problems. Unskilled illegal workers are streaming across the boarder and competing with unskilled Americans for jobs. This drives salaries down. Obama and friends are saddling employers with so many expenses and regulations that we become less competitive in the World market for products. These companies either shrink or move overseas. The EPA is out of control and is a huge problem costing millions of job losses.

Union companies can not compete on a World market with non-union companies. They never will be able to compete, and that's why they're going extinct. Government should be making unions weaker or illegal.

Get government the hell out of the way, and let us produce AND transport more oil and gas via pipeline.

Get a few of these things done and you will begin to see job creation in a substantial way. By the way, whining about having to compete doesn't do a damn thing to change the fact that unions make their companies non-competitive.

So there you have it, in one corner the thought is it should be earned and in the other that it should be given no matter what.

In all honesty I've worked with a few guys who weren't even worth five bucks an hour, one I remember was so stupid he could've been an extra in the movie Idiocracy and the others were just plain lazy and would do the absolute bare minimum of work. It's funny, the lazy guys were always the ones constantly bitching about how thet're so over worked, didn't make enough money, the boss is always coming down on me blah, blah, blah. Constantly.

Yep, we all know that air and water are overrated. All kidding aside I did a lot of contract work for some major industries (I'm talking huge) here in Florida and I can only imagine how out of control they would have been without the EPA and OSHA breathing down their neck.

Thank God for the EPA here in Florida. Most of our drinking water comes from the Floridian Aquifer and it is relatively shallow. It wouldn't take much to ruin our source of water from polluted runoff or waste.

Except in 1970, when the $10 inflation adjusted equivalent minimum wage didn't manage to sink McDonalds or the economy. Why was that? Any ideas?

For some reason Roulette Man took a pass on answering that question. How about you, chief?

Gee I don't know...
You should have stopped there Chef. Or just make that your sig line.

Answering a question with wimpy maybes and a link that doesn't support your maybe-assertions is just weak. McDonalds paid affordable wages in 1970 and apparently can't anymore. I've got data to prove that. Have you got data to explain it?

Define affordable when in the 1970's (depending upon which side of the oil embargo you are talking about) when $40 could buy a weeks worth of food for a family of 4 and min wage was from $1.60 to $2.90 (1970-1980) link.

McDonalds like many other fast food businesses are typically low wage "entry level" jobs. They were never designed for people to raise a family with the money they made from such businesses.

You Liberals want people with no experience to get paid a wage that will take care of a family of 4. That isn't going to happen anytime soon.
I love dirty water and air. In fact, I hope that the air becomes so polluted that my children die of lung cancer. Best yet, if the water become polluted to the point of burning one's skin while foolishly attempting to swim.

Our water and air is the cleanest that it has been in the past 70 years. The EPA is out of control. If our debt continues increasing and our economy fails, water and air will be the first things that are sacrificed.

These days, it's hard to tell when a "conservative" is being sarcastic.

Cleaning up a broken light bulb:

If on a hard floor, get a broom and dustpan and sweep the broken glass into the pan. Throw in the trash. If on carpet, pick up the big pieces and then vacuum.

Cleaning Up a Broken CFL (per the EPA)

Before Cleanup

•Have people and pets leave the room.
•Air out the room for 5-10 minutes by opening a window or door to the outdoor environment.
•Shut off the central forced air heating/air-conditioning system, if you have one.
•Collect materials needed to clean up broken bulb:
?stiff paper or cardboard;
?sticky tape;
?damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes (for hard surfaces); and
?a glass jar with a metal lid or a sealable plastic bag.

During Cleanup
•DO NOT VACUUM. Vacuuming is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other cleanup steps have been taken. Vacuuming could spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor.
•Be thorough in collecting broken glass and visible powder. Scoop up glass fragments and powder using stiff paper or cardboard. Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. Place the used tape in the glass jar or plastic bag. See the detailed cleanup instructions for more information, and for differences in cleaning up hard surfaces versus carpeting or rugs.
•Place cleanup materials in a sealable container.

After Cleanup
•Promptly place all bulb debris and cleanup materials, including vacuum cleaner bags, outdoors in a trash container or protected area until materials can be disposed of. Avoid leaving any bulb fragments or cleanup materials indoors.
•Next, check with your local government about disposal requirements in your area, because some localities require fluorescent bulbs (broken or unbroken) be taken to a local recycling center. If there is no such requirement in your area, you can dispose of the materials with your household trash.
•If practical, continue to air out the room where the bulb was broken and leave the heating/air conditioning system shut off for several hours.

Yes, Forkie thinks these light bulbs are great for the environment.

It's only difficult for those with simple minds.

CFL's are so yesterday...from Fox News "In the meantime, there's no reason to buy CFLs, which are yesterday's technology. LEDs are safer, brighter, and better."
