Now they can:

which also means:

- hang up their own coat
- pick up the check once in awhile
- and stand on the subway

But buy her one dinner and he thinks that is a green flag for sex.
lol

I have to agree I think manners are disappearing. I don't necessarily think my doors should be opened just becasue I am a women , but anyone should offer to be polite. A seat on public transportation if in distress, pregnant or elderly ,sure thing I will offer.

I hate it when I allow a car in and they no longer wave thanks. I very seldom hear please and thank you. It's truly sad.
Recently in Mexico, my wife and I were on a bus and a couple of young school kids offered us their seats.

When I hold the door for someone and they don't say thank you, I always say a loud YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!

I never realized that for decades, women were essentially "buying" door openings and subway seats by accepting lower wages and fewer rights.

I for one will continue to hold doors open for women out of respect. It's how I was brought up. I will also continue to expect a "thank you" in return.

To hell with the dog-eat-dog mentality. Some things are not for sale, and those are the values that define us.

And thank you for the Rosie photo. I hope she gets another show--she's a great American!

Since the invention of the cell phone, manners went out of the window:

Talking on the phone while in the bathroom
Talking a call while in a meeting at work
Ringing phones while watching a movie/play
Talking on the phone while driving
I find that the "younger generation" whose mothers ended up in the work force

5 days a week plus had to take care of the home, cook, clean, wash clothes,

grocery shopping etc. were just too damn tired to teach their children good

manners. I have made it out to be very important in life to my 3 grandsons to

have good manners and have taught them from a very young age when I babysat

them. They are almost 12, the middle one just turned 10 and the youngest is

5 1/2 years old. I am very proud of how those three boys are at home with

their manners and out and about.

You left out while eating in a resteraunt, especially if they talk LOUDLY.Grrr
I've always held doors for ladies, especially when getting in and out of the car. I also hold doors for people, especially at the court, and sometimes lose my place in line by being so generous. But no biggee. I was taught better by my Mom. Even if someone doesn't acknowledge your holding the door or saying "thank you", there always those that do...and are sincere with their comments.

In NY talking on the commuter railroads. It has gotten so bad the trains now have "quiet cars". The subways will soon be able to allow cell phones also.

Another new annoying habit in NYC - walking very slow or blocking the sidewalk while texting
