More Question of the Day Shake-your-heads

I can answer your question.

Wow. Nice first post Jacques St. Mush. Please don't wait another 3 years for the second!
The WSOP website states that the dealer hiring process started in February for re-hires only. All other potential dealer candidates have to file an application and are required to audition. Great question Jon; I have often wondered where all those dealers came from. Are they considered employees of CET during the WSOP or are they considered independent "contractors". Do they have to be bonded? With so much money at stake, what is the screening process for these dealers?

Well, not sure how far LVA goes to actually make up questions, but sometimes it reminds me of the Sunday supplement Parade: in their Q&A on the inside cover, the questions (which actually have a name and city attached, fwiw) almost always ask what so and so is doing nowadays, and that celebrity just happens to have a movie coming out that week, or a book just written, or a guest appearance on a tv show that week.
I'm not quite the curmudgeon that Jon is (howya doin' buddy?) but I myself get annoyed at the softballs I see in the QOD that easily can be answered thru a Google search.

I like Parade a lot, but I also noticed this. It's like they save up the question until a has been has somehow re-surfaced or gotten out of rehab and in a good place. You hardly ever read "We don't know. He disappeared from the scene when his last movie flopped." LOL

I have had a few questions answered by LVA, and as far as I recall they didn't involve something I could look up on Google. I've also had some that were never answered.

Jon's question certainly is a good one, and right here we have conflicting 'facts' offered. I'm only speculating, but a it might be considered a possible conflict of interest to use a casino's dealers for this type of event (chicanery, anyone?.
Blair Rodman had a nice blog on the WSOP including a lot of info on how dealers get paid. It's in the Spotlight On section of LVA's main page.

Kinda seems like every new book release in the shop is part of a QOD answer. Other than that, it doesn't bother me that all the questions are super-soft!

I agree with sionow completely. There must be many great questions that are going unanswered, while the lightweight stuff is dealt with.
Today (June 10) is yet another. "I read chef and TV host Gordon Ramsay opened a restaurant in a "Las Vegas casino" in May. That was pretty much all the article said. Where and what casino?" How is it that someone can figure out how to send in a QOD, yet can't figure out how to google a simple "Ramsey Vegas" - which gives numerous hits, all of which answer the question in a fraction of a second.
Seems like a waste for the very well informed and well connected staff at LVA to deal with the soft ones like this when they have shown so often that they do an excellent job of finding out the most obscure Vegas info.

I think I'm going to ask..."Are there any good new blackjack books on the market? It seems like it's been a long time since a new one was written".
There is a special casino employees poker tournament, for all the extra employees coming in. Kinda cool.
I know a woman that has been dealing the WSOP for many years. She works for other casinos but they let her deal the WSOP. She has her own place in Vegas, so she needs no room. Hope that answers your question!
Jaques: Thanks for taking the time to not only enlighten us, but your links were terrific reads.

Seems I'm not the only one confused as to all the "softball" questions being answered by the staff when as one reader mentioned, their connections and skill could do a much better job at looking behind the curtain of what makes Vegas tick.

Thanks to all for your comments and ideas.
