Now its a question of loyality/patriotism to keep them in line.
There's so much factually and historically incorrect about this statement I wont bother to react to it beyond saying Sadam's troops were largely kicked out of the military...and you'll find a lot more of them in ISIS than the current military in Iraq. Its part of the whole Sunni-Shite thing. I suggest you read up on it.

Gee PJ, would you think if Obama had actually negotiated with the Iraqi government for a SOF agreement, it may have prevented this crap in the first place?
Now there IS no choice but to eliminate Isis/Isil no matter what. This is the very messy part of dealing with folks in the Middle East. We freed Iraq from Saddam and our correct choice is to do what ever we can to support the duly elected government and kill Isis/Isil.
I cant think of a worse decision then to keep our troops in a country whose Democratically elected leader sent execution squads into the neighborhoods of sectarian opponents. That coupled with the other leader in Syria who kills the same people with chemical weapons.
Are you surprised the oppressed victims in those sectarian kill plots have joined hands with crazy militants who want to fight back? I'm not. ANd I'm certainly not willing to say one of those groups is better than the other. Feel free to disagree. I cant remotely imagine what a rational defense argument would be for either group. And trying to make such an argument with our troops over there at a cost of 10 billion/week in addition to whatever casualties they may suffer?
I'm happy to disagree with your foreign policy chef. Very, very happy. But I at least give you credit for weighing in on who you think the good guys are. Your pals on the board didn't want to face that music...and for good reason
You mean the issue about who was supposed to succeed Mohammed? (any other issue between IS meaningless as this is THE ISSUE)
Why they join forces is very easy, it allows you to live. Go against them and you die, very simple. As I stated, the soldiers are quite weak as the government can't or won't support the troops. If your own government won't give you the supplies and the leadership is weak or non-existant what would YOU do?
IF and its a big if, the "moderate" muslims act and help destroy these thugs it would garner them more good will and bargining power than they could dream of. However, they are doing the "I won't go against my brother" syndrome and simply won't act until its way too late.
We walked in there and freed people from the tyranny of Saddam and its our place to finish the damn job, no matter what. Sorry, I remember Vietnam and our government has been too afraid to uncork the dragon and let him lay waste until the job was done and this is what we get.
