And as a direct result of our failure to finish the job in Vietnam, the Palazzo Club at Sheraton Saigon has lousy VP pay tables and no blackjack. Oh the humanity! Or maybe 60,000 wasn't a round enough number for you, huh chef? Maybe we should have gone for 75,000, or 100,000.

Yeah, let's do it again in Iraq!

And how many did we NOT get back?

The formula is a 10 to 1 advantage in numbers AND time. We had neither, yet we won every battle and lost the war. Forkie, how many fought in Vietnam? Korea? WWII? WWI? and how many died?????

Iraq/Afghanistan is roughly 4,000 killed and about 2 million troops. (multiple deployments do count (10 deployments/10 troops))

You talk dead soldiers, I talk percentages killed, as militarily speaking that IS the number that really matters...
So how about "We regret to inform you that your percentage was killed in battle?" Well, at least it's honest.

In the 50's and 60's, the US supported lots of oppressive and murderous regimes, but the new leaders of Vietnam were going to oppress Standard Oil and United Fruit Company - and that's why we invaded.

That makes us the bad guys.
So PJ has no problem with a terrorist organization that has created its own country by murdering thousands of innocents. murdering Americans and is threatening the US and Europe?

Their goal is that the entire world should follow their version of Islam.

What makes you think they will not try to attack Europe and the US? Libya as said that they are missing a dozen airliners

Fight them there of fight them here; it is better that we fight them there

How is obama's Arab spring working out?

So we can expect you anytime to be posting on the beheading thread about certain right-wingers applauding jokes?

Are you talking about ISIS or Maliki ? Both fit your description.

How many US troops and dollars are you willing to forfeit for your Iraq peace strategy? And how many more decades will it take to resolve it? And ....whose taxes are you going to raise to pay for it?

I'm a student of history. History doesn't bear many fruits yielded from US intervention in the MIddle East. Some people try and learn from history. And some dont...

You forgot "uncle Ho" went to the Soviet Union. It was a kill the commie lovers thing too

Forkie, you don't you look at the number of troops killed. It went from 10% or more during WWII down to less than 1% in Iraq. More troops died during D-Day than the entire Iraq/Afghan wars.

Probably an honest idiot..

But I see for the 10,000th time our resident critics do what they do best: Cry without offering an alternative. They're so cute.

So lets hear it. What genocidal group does Hoops, DrMilled, Chefantowan, and Adolf-beadle think the US should side with? Chemical Weapons Assad...or slaughtering-innocents ISIS? Counsel our idiot president (and the rest of us) regarding which side he should take....and which group of people are the good guys.

Better yet - don't weigh in. The last guy you collectively cheered into the Middle East sent our country trillions of dollars into debt (not to mention countless lives and casualties). If the current president is an idiot then what is the correct word for people who supported the earlier endeavor?

Could you make a more facile argument? If my NFL team wins no more than a few games every year and the GM is in his 6th season I don't need to say what I would have done differently to validate my point that he sucks. There are no words to express how incompetent he is at foreign policy.

If would be nice if things were going well with the economy to offset some of the bad news from around the globe. He's just about as incompetent there. We had the worst recession since the Great Depression and our overall growth since coming out of the recession is a meager 2.1%. And we only accomplished that by having a massively stimulating monetary and fiscal policy that has added $7 trillion to the national debt(so far), has hurt the value of the US dollar and will hamstring the economy for many years. I don't envy at all the next President that has to clean up the inconceivable mess Obama has made.

Congratulations America for electing the first Black President, but screw you for electing the first child President.
Hoops, stay away from Anna...............she's mine!

PJ is correct. ISIS has clearly stated their long term goal is to "Conquer all countries across the globe and mandate Sharia Law, with the exception of Canada, Uruguay, and Japan".

ISIS vows to attack Putin in Russia for providing weapons to Syria. Already on their way...

Ya know who ISIS has not threatened? Canada, Uruguay, Japan, <name any non-intervening country here>

Isis killed 2,000 people in June alone. How many did Maliki allegedly kill?

Obama had his chances to get rid of Assad by siding with moderate forces in Syria several yrs ago. He also had his chance when Assad crossed obama's line last yr. He chose not to & now we have a bigger mess.
I have concluded that we should not go to war with ISIS, as America is not ready to do what needs to be done to win. Some day, in not too many years, terrible things will happen within the United States. Terrorists will kill hundreds of thousands or possibly millions of Americans. At that point, America will be willing to wage the only type of war which we can win. A ruthless, take no prisoners, war of total destruction. We won't differentiate between the terrorists and the civilians.

That's unfortunately the only way to win a war.
