No Strategy

Isis killed 2,000 people in June alone. How many did Maliki allegedly kill?

Obama had his chances to get rid of Assad by siding with moderate forces in Syria several yrs ago. He also had his chance when Assad crossed obama's line last yr. He chose not to & now we have a bigger mess.

Huh? Wha? Are you talking out of both sides of your mouth again?

ISIS is a bigger problem now because Obama did not oust their biggest opponent when he had the chance? ISIS would likely be ruling Syria right now if you got rid of Assad. And this is not unkown to Hoops. When Obama considered arming Syrian rebels Hoops complained about giving weapons to people aligned with AlQueada. And when Obama did not arm those rebels he complained about leaving Assad in power. Complaining out of both corners of one's mouth is not a foreign policy. But thats all Hoops has to offer.

ISIS vows to attack Putin in Russia for providing weapons to Syria. Already on their way...

Ya know who ISIS has not threatened? Canada, Uruguay, Japan, <name any non-intervening country here>

Sounds like you would have been an isolationist during WWII. Sometimes vermin needs to be exterminated. If ISIS were to ever get powerful enough, they'd be setting sail for the USA and not to chase blow and hookers in Vegas.

Here is my cynical prediction. Russia invades Syria and Iraq to exterminate ISIS. Russia decides they might need to stick around a bit to keep things safe for Russians. The good news is a more stable world with less radical Muslim terrorism. The bad news is a return to the cold war.
At the beginning of the Syrian war there were more moderate groups that the US could have supported, but obama chose not to.

Isis got support and they grew to what we have today

Isolationist? No. Just a student of history.

Replacing Nazi's with a Western Government was an improvement. Replacing Shites with Sunni's (or vice versa) is an exercise of replacing one bad apple with another. 1 year ago we were collectively peeing our pants about Iran's nuclear program and Assads chemical weapons use. Now we are peeing our pants about those regime's enemies.

If you dont have a good answer as to who should rule these areas....and you dont have a plan to implement that answer....then whats the point of killing our troops and spending our money?

I liek your scenario much better...let Putin play referee in the MIddle East for awhile. We can focus on rebuilding Ameirca for a change.

You are an isolationist because even in this case you cannot come up with attacking one of the most savage groups to come along in the last 100 years

A number of countries were replaced by communists ww2

Ignoring isis is not a strategy, one could call it doing stupid things
Pj, if you're a student of ANYTHING I'll do the jig and post it.

Cool! Maybe we could sucker them into invading Afghanistan all over again. How'd that work out for them?

If thats your position - fine. We can agree to disagree..

But Please stop pretending you care about Federal deficits. Clearly you dont mind them in the context of tearing down and rebuilding the Middle East. And let us know when you get back from your local army recruitment office.

Nobody wants to see that. But lets all give a big round of applause to Albeadle. He used the word "jig" in a non-racist context.

If you're a student of history, you know that quite a few countries let Hitler do what he wanted in Europe because he had not threatened them. Eventually, what could have been a large problem turned into a gigantic problem. Better to stop an infestation in the early stages than to try to eliminate one after its grown and gotten more powerful.
