Thanks pjstroh, think we can all sleep better now.

Wow, there's actually some motion inside the skull. Big beds cost more than small beds! Now, taking a baby step, instead of imagining a big bed and a small bed, imagine two beds and one bed. Which probably costs more?

Here's some help:

Queen Sealy Posturepedic Cooper Mountain Plush Euro Pillowtop Mattress
Price: $1999.00
Sale: $599.00
This is a soft mattress with high end features at an affordable price. An excellent value. This is a queen size, however it is available in other sizes on our site.

King Sealy Posturepedic Cooper Mountain Plush Euro Pillowtop Mattress
Price: $2879.00
Sale: $799.00
This is a soft mattress with high end features at an affordable price. An excellent value. This is a King size, however it is available in other sizes on our site.

According to

this website 2 full size mattresses cost exactly $250 more than one king size.
So in your mind a $250 cost justifies a $20 a night surcharge? Since hotels only change mattresses every 4 years or so that would be charging over $25,000 at 90% occupancy for a $250 cost.
If you think THAT is justified then I shudder to think what you would accept as a scam fee for those $1000 big screen TV's.
Still left undressed is how the vast majority of casinos manage to thrive without this scummy fee.
Assuming both beds are used, a maid is going to take longer to change the sheets and make the beds for a two bed room. More sheets and more towels will also need to be washed from a two bed room.

I don't know if those factors are taken in for pricing or if the hotels strictly see an extra person or two and that they can go ahead and charge more for?

I guess I am missing something here. If they charge more for a room with 2 beds and disclose this up front in the room rates, why couldn't someone who needs a room with 2 beds just stay somewhere else?

It's just one hissy fit after another.

We WILL be staying somewhere else. However, the whole point is that these fees are not disclosed up front.
If you go to hotels.com and do a search for Oct. 14 and 15 for 2 people the result you get is that the Palms is $45. Period. You think you get a great rate and click "Select". What comes up is
this page which does show a picture of a "Deluxe Room" with a single bed. Nowhere does it say "you will be charged $15 a night extra for asking for 2 small beds instead of 1 big one". Since every casino I have been to politely asks "one bed or two" on check-in (again, maybe I have lived a charmed life) without thinking about extorting extra money from you a shopper less savvy then I to the scumbaggery of hotels would likely book thinking he has gotten a $45 room. You will also notice that the $20 a night resort fee is buried deep, deep into the fine print. So the $45 room costs the unwary traveler (NOT me) $80 and yes I think that is a big deal especially as no other casino has tried this in 25 years. As you can see I am far from the only one who thinks this is a ripoff.

Your bitching should be aimed at Hotels.com, not the Palms.
You are correct in saying you are not the only one who thinks this is a rip off, but you are the only one acting like this is only happening to you and in Vegas.

Than the people over at Vegas Chatter who complain about this are cheapos as well. More people in a room means more people you're supplying with a roof above their heads, more costs for cleaning, etc. Every hotel has every right to charge an additional fee for 2 beds instead of one. Most European hotels in Spain, Italy, Greece, etc. charge you for the number of people that stay in the room. More people means higher costs. Nothing strange about that.

If you want to go on bitching about additional costs for multiple beds in a room. STAY AT HOME, it won't cost you anything. Calling it a scam is childish behavior. Some people just have to find a way to complain about anything......
