I don't find DonDiego's poll offensive in the least. It confirms what everyone already knows: the GOP is the party of white, evangelical men and Democrats are the party of everyone else.
It shouldn't surprise anyone that Muslim Americans overwhelmingly side with Democrats. What choice do they have?
- For six years conservatives have (falsely) accused the president of being a Muslim - as if being a Muslim was insulting or something to be ashamed of.
- Republican governors in red states have signed laws making it illegal for Muslim Law to be the basis of any legislation In their state - which was never an issue - it was simply a ploy to demonstrate anti-Islamic xenophobia.
- And when a Muslim group tried to build a community center near the 911 site nearly every conservative in the country shit a brick because they presumed American Muslims are sympathetic to the people who attacked us on 911 and were locating the building as an insult to our country.
- Conservatives on a national level (and on this board) have condoned the idea of profiling Muslims AMericans...singling them out at security checkpoints
- American citizens of any non-Christian religion have to constantly listen to conservatives' nauseating "War on Christmas", demands for 10 commandment displays in public buildings, and pursuit of Bible study in Public schools...all of which presume Christianity trumps all other religions in this country.
- And Muslim members of the LVA community (if there are any) would note that even poor old DonDiego posted on these boards some time ago that he would never vote for someone of the Islamic faith simply for that reason
So, yeah, if you are Muslim in this country you don't have a very big menu of political parties to embrace. You can side with a party that openly discriminates against you...or one that does not. Rinse and repeat for gays, women, African AMericans, atheists, and Latinos.
For someone who appears to dislike or disagree with pigeon-holing people, you have no problem with doing it yourself.
A very comprehensive set of American polls and polling data and evaluation is available here. It is a VERY long read, so Coot can ignore it while criticizing it, and Fork can pick one or two partial sentences to attack and deflect away from the original content. While it is about 2-years-old, I think it is still pretty close to today's American demographics.
It's much more complicated than you think.
While researching the topic subject, I found something somewhat unexpected, given your claims and assumptions about Muslim Americans.
From the American Muslim Perspective website:
"American Muslims made history in 2000 presidential elections when they voted en bloc for George Bush. The American Muslim Political Coordinating Council Political Action Committee (AMPCC-PAC), a coalition of four major American Muslim organizations, only two weeks before the election announced its endorsement of George W. Bush for president, citing his outreach to the Muslim community and his stand on the issue of secret evidence."
"In a post-election survey of American Muslim voters conducted by the Washington, DC-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), one of the nation’s largest grassroots Muslim advocacy and civil rights groups, nearly three-quarters of respondents indicated that they had voted for Texas Governor Bush. Of these, 85 percent noted that the endorsement of Bush by the American Muslim Political Coordinating Committee Political Action Committee (AMPCC-PAC) was a factor in their vote. In this survey of 1,774 voters, 72 percent of Muslim respondents said they voted for Bush, 19 percent supported Green Party candidate Ralph Nader, and only 8 percent favored Vice President Al Gore. Muslims, therefore, became the only bloc vote for Bush."
...I guess they didn't tell their Arab brothers and sisters that the future Republican President wasn't such a bad guy.
