Reno

Thanks I'm aware of washing tons weather. I've been there but hubby hasn't. If we do Washington it will be summer. Was looking at a casino up in Bellingham Silverleaf or something. The draw was the proximity to Canada. Would make a great side trip. Can you take a rental car into Canada from the US?

No problem.

So, back to Reno.
I havent been since I sold my bussiness intrest in northern Nevada many years ago. At one time I knew the area well. I had a cabin in the North Lake area and spent my casino time split between Cal-Neva and Harvey's. Also spent a little time at a small place that boasted the largest craps table (forgot the name) and Ceasar's (where friendly waitresses could be met and invited to "parties")
When in Reno for bussiness I would stay at the Silver Legacy and before that the Elderado. They were the nicest in town then.
So, what has happened to these places?? Is Downtown done?
If you end up in Tahoe by chance, I have a $25 rest. com coupon for red hut cafe(they have mostly stellar reviews on trip advisor and yelp) and you are welcome to it, our trip got cancelled unfortunately.

Also consider Laughlin - a lot nicer than Reno
Not a universally shared opinion.

To me, Reno's now a small, struggling college town with too much crime but world-class scenery nearby, four seasons, and some value-oriented casinos sprinkled about for fun. Laughlin's just an overgrown Primm beside a flood control canal.

I could see living in Reno. Even factoring in Bullhead City, I couldn't imagine living in Laughlin.

Silver Legacy and Eldo are still chugging away. SL did declare bankruptcy last spring, which obviously is not good, but they have submitted plans to leave. Not sure where that stands right now.

The Terrible's group (now Affinity) gobbled up the Sands Regency and is running that as a value joint with table games. Other than the expansions and Atlantis and Peppermill, the completion of the railroad trench, the gentrification of some of the blocks near the river, and the disappearance of Fitzgeralds, Reno's pretty much as it was 6-7 years ago.
The best part of Reno is that it is on the way to Tahoe

I thought we were discussing a visit. I would visit both but would not live in either.
Go to Tahoe,forget Reno.
The peppermill and Atlantis are the two best palces in town. The wife and I stayed in one of the suites last April they were nice. Atlantis is only a 10 minute walk down the block.
