Can you take a rental car into Canada from the US?

No problem.

But you have to leave it at the border if it doesn't have snow tires.

ROFLMAO

Peppermill and Atlantis are the places to go. Downtown is still worth a look. Avoid Laughlin.

Laughlin's just an overgrown Primm beside a flood control canal.

Really now, that's a bit critical don't you think? Laughlin has much to like, and many folks prefer it to Las Vegas. Can often stay three nights in a Laughlin hotel for what one night on the LV Strip would cost, lower food and entertainment costs, no traffic jams, porn slappers, time share pushy salesmen, and little crime. Plus lower gambling costs, with $5 minimum table games all over the place and all the usual slots. Yes, it is more blue collar, working and middle class type of town, and the hotels are a bit shabby and run down, but many like the down to earth vibe of the town. The Colorado River is hardly a flood control channel, and visitors enjoy many water sports and recreation activities. If you are a LV Strip person that must have the upscale amenities then Laughlin is not for you, but if you like Downtown, the Boulder Strip, and the locals casinos, you will do just fine in Laughlin.

I LOVE the upscale amenities the Vegas Strip and some local properties offer and also LOVE the laid back feeling of Laughlin.

Yes, I was being a little facetious about Laughlin. I appreciate its bargain-orientation. But it's really just a border operation not unlike Primm or Wendover or Mesquite. And that section of the Colorado River is not a wild western stream but a tightly-controlled canal between dam projects.

For fun, I think Reno has it all over Laughlin.

F'rinstance, while in Reno one can visit the Donner Memorial. DonDiego suggests one take one's own snacks.
While in Laughlin, one can enjoy the annual Laughlin River Run motorcycle event, which in the recent past featured members of the Mongols motorcycle gang attacking members of the rival Hells Angels motorcycle gang at Harrah's, killing three and wounding a dozen more.

"[P]olice found six guns, 50 knives, two hammers, two wrenches and six flashlights. A homemade weapon consisting of a piece of leather weighted with metal also was recovered inside the casino. On the outside of the casino, police found three more guns, 15 knives and three flashlights. A total of nine guns, 65 knives were recovered at scene."

Sounds delightful! And this millenium, not 166 years ago.

What's with all the flashlights?

I really want to check out Laughlin sometime.

Oh man, does this mean I'm getting old(er)?
The infamous biker brawl and killings were in 2002, 11 years ago, and things have been pretty peacefull since. In the meantime, seem to recall a biker shootout and killing in the Sparks Nuggett in 2011, and murder is commonplace all over Las Vegas. The crime rate is much higher in Las Vegas and Reno than in Laughlin, although Bullhead City aross the river is pretty bad.

Will say this though, The River Run week in late April is the one week of the year I absolutely will not visit Laughlin. My drinking, carousing, and brawling days are far behind me, just am too old and peaceful (?). Long lines and huge crowds for everything, plus drunks running up and down the halls of your hotel at 4:00 AM just a bit too much to take now. The other 51 weeks of the year, fine, but not this one.
