The rich get richer

pjstroh-" I would simply weigh in with this:
If you dont think employers should pay their workers enough money to eat and get basic healthcare then you shouldn't complain about those workers applying for food stamps/medicaid." OK pj, and just who is supposed to pay for the food stamps/medicaid? Also, just how many employers do you think could stay in business if they paid whatever you think is a correct wage for those to purchase food and healthcare, after those same people pay for their cable/dish, cell phones, bar tabs, drugs, new cars, etc? Did you or any of your liberal idealists ever hear of living within your means? Fiscal responsibility begins with the individual, not the employer. If your job does not pay enough to support your lifestyle, then find another job. Of course now, if you are one of the millions who never applied themselves in school and have no real job skills, then I guess it is the employers fault that they prefer not to pay you what you think your skills are worth. I feel sorry for the generations of welfare people who have been told that the "government" will take care of them. But I am also tired of supporting these same people with money that is taken out of my paycheck. Quit making excuses for these freeloaders, they are receiving exactly what they are entitled to.

Thank you for making this argument which I hear frequently but does absolutely nothing to solve the problem

Lets say there are 20 million crappy jobs in the country that dont pay enough money for their respective workers to .....eat. Those 20 million people can take DrMilled's advice and get a better job. And they will replaced by a fresh set of 20 million workers at their former crappy job that doesn't pay enough to ...eat. The net number of people on food stamps will then be the same. Problem not solved.

DrMilled solution doesn't solve the problem he complains about...but on the plus-side it does give DrMilled a fresh group of people to hold contempt for.

pjstroh- "DrMilled solution doesn't solve the problem he complains about...but on the plus-side it does give DrMilled a fresh group of people to hold contempt for." The only people I hold contempt for are people such as yourself. The reason you hear "this argument" is because it is true. Solving the "problem" does not rest with employers, it rests with the individuals. If you don't like where you find yourself in your life, then do something. Quit making excuses and do something positive to better yourself. As I stated previously, if you don't have any job skills, then you will be limited as to who will employ you. Get off of your lazy asses, put the joint down, take a bath, clean yourself up and take advantage of all of the possibilities that America offers everyone who is willing to better their lot in life. And don't tell me that it can't be done, for there are millions who have. As an aside, you bleeding heart liberals make me sick. You list all of the "problems" in today's society but you have only one solution- take from those who have earned what they have and give to the freeloading greedy.

I hope those "lazy ass" (his phrase, not mine) workers get a better job too. But I fail to see how their replacement workers will be any less dependant on the entitlement programs at the heart of DrMilled's biggest complaint in life.

I feel bad for thoughtful conservative candidates running for office today. They cant offer solutions to problems. They are forced to cater to the blind rage of people like DrMilled during primary season..

pj- there is nothing I said that is not true. Just take off your rose colored glasses, and observe. What you refer to as "blind rage" is the reality. The solutions for the ills in today's society are obvious. You, obviously, are blind to reality.

DonDiego chooses not to say there are 20-million crappy jobs in the country that don't pay enough money for their workers to . . . eat.

"Fast-food workers are in the lowest paid occupational category. The median hourly wage for frontline fast-food workers is $8.94 nationally. Many don't even earn that. A shortage of hours further limits income. Fast-food workers work only 24 hours a week on average — at $8.94 an hour, this adds up to barely $11,000 a year."
Ref: Reuters

teechur and DonDiego combined spend less than $11,000 a year on food [see note i, below], . . . and they are not, . . . small people, . . . and they ingest a varied diet including lots of meat and cheese and chocolate, . . . and tomatoes.

Historically, . . . such crappy jobs have been recognized as "first jobs", part-time jobs for employees who have not yet educated themselves or begun a family. [see note ii, below] That people who for whatever reason now consider these positions their life's work and demand $15-per-hour is a problem; they should aim higher, . . . as drmilled suggests.

But something has been left out.
The Government is ready and, at least temporarily able, to provide . . . assistance to the beleaguered Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen employees.
The Congressional Budget Office claims just such a single-parent with one child, . . . after factoring in all taxes and transfer payments has a disposable income of around $20,000, . . . plenty enough to eat.

Maybe this has something to do with folks not aiming higher. Why, once they exceed around $30,000-per-year they actually have to start paying taxes and stuff.

note i. The estimated food expenditure for teechur and DonDiego does not include beer and wine

note ii. DonDiego extensive reading of current events reveals a strange development: sometime soon there'll be a lot more part-time jobs, . . . limiting employees to exactly 29-hours-per-week, no more, no less. Those giant corporations will have to raise their hourly pay by about a third just to keep them even, . . . or pr'bly not.

Once again.....Dr. Milled dispensing his right wing talking points faster than a goose shitting on a golf course.

Funny.....I have heard the same thing on Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity's propaganda shows.

And no outrage for a 20 million a year CEO whose employees are some of the lowest paid in the country ?

But outrage for the so called "bleeding heart liberals" .

Same old, Same old from the good doctor.

" Same old, Same old from the good doctor." ---- You will continue to get the "same old" from me, then one day you and the rest will be confronted with the reality and have to re assess the "same old". None so blind as those who will not see.

Historically minimum wage jobs (like the one Don Diego had in high school) paid a much higher income...over $10/hour for 1968 inflation adjusted dollars. Don Diego didn't have to aim higher than employees of today...his employer was mandated to honor his work at a higher value.

Oh, Don Diego makes a brilliant point: 20k/year is enough annual income to "eat". Unfortunately most people are burdened with many forms of non-discretionary exependitures of which food is only one....things like: rent, clothes, electricty, heat, medicine, transportation - for example.

But there is good news on the fast food front that Don Dieog cited.. He should be thrilled to know the kind folks at McDonalds took it upon themselves to build a budget for their well cared for workers which does indeed provide allocation for food. Note that there is no money for heat in the budget (they dont need that)...and it also assumes the worker has a 2nd job - an embarrassing admission the income provided to their own employees is not capable of providing for the most basic of needs.
