So What's The Deal With Soda?

Back in the late 70's when I first came out to Calif., all the major chains got into a price war on soda prices. This is when they still had 6 packs which now are limited to lesser known brands like Shasta and some special root beers. But the grocery chain Ralph's ended the war real quick on a Labor Day sale. Get this!! Buy one 6 pack of Pepsi for .49c, and get A FULL CASE FREE!!! No one challenged them after that!
I just take advantage and stock up.
Red solo cups are my friends.

Bags, in CT it's the same way. You must buy 4 to get the sale price. I've heard that's not a supermarket sale, but a distributor deal.

Proceed to party.

I still think it's BS. Take a single person that MAYBE drinks a 12 pack a week, and would take 3-4 weeks to meet the supermarket quota. I just don't think it's fair, and I think the beverage companies are going to lose customers in the meantime.

In order for the local grocer to get a good deal on the soda, they might have been obligated to make a large purchase. They don't want to sit on the large inventory so they sell it in bulk and pass the savings on to the consumer. You want it both ways. You want a volume discount but only want to buy a small quantity. Either buy more and save or spend more for the convenience of buying less.

Exactly right. I am constantly amazed at the poor understanding of simple economics.

As for soda ... sitting in an unopened can or plastic bottle for a month will not affect its taste. Take advantage of the deals if you have the space. I always do.

Yup, ever been to a costco. Bulk is why so cheap.

So did Bags buy 1 12 pack for $4.99 or spring for 3 12 packs for $9.99? LVA waits.

In Northern PA the cans/bottles have the $.05 deposit bonus stamped on them yet you don't pay for it.
A quick jaunt to NY State and you collect the ca$h. Kramer & Newman got nothing on me.

Ka-ching, life is good.................
NY State, expect a visit from JM soon.

I seriously doubt they soda companies will lose customers. Most people will take advantage of the sale and stock up. Soda takes a real long time to go bad so the sale + long shelf life is a win win for most consumers.

Bags seems a lot of things set you off nowadays. Chill don't sweat the small stuff. Not worth the stress.
