What good parents do is educate their children to realize they don't know everything and are not bullet proof. Sure, kids can be stubborn. So can non-kids. But most parents succeed at this. Not all, but most.
The wrong choice is to throw up our hands in disgust and pretend nothing can be done. Lots of things can be done, many of them worthwhile. We should do them, lives are worth it.

You're delusional in thinking anything can be done about teenage distracted driving by parents or any other authority figure. Today's young people are a twisted product of the progressive world they're being brought up in. Anything goes, and as long as that type of unethical and immoral attitude runs rampant among teenagers and their rock star and Hollywood sicko idols, they will do whatever they want. In a way, the guy who said he was glad the 16 year old was dead is onto something. Death as a reality is the only thing that may get through to the others corrupted by today's liberal sickness.
