Things That Make One Go "Hmm"

As a legal gun owner and somebody who has been glad more than once I had them in my home let me offer my two cents. The original newspaper article was nothing more than an attempt to vilify and harass legal gun owners.

Obviously the powers to be at that particular rag has heartburn with gun ownership. Like it or not it is legal to own a gun in that town. To me it is no different than publishing the names of everyone who bought beer or watched porn, both are legal but you might not agree with it. For that matter print the names of everyone who bought a tobacco product.

I am a hardcore union man, liberal democrat who still believes in individual liberty. We need to quit taking away other peoples liberty and we need to quit giving up our liberty because others are not able to handle it.

We need to make people accountable for their actions and quit trying to whittle away our liberty because of those that abuse the freedoms we have in this country.

Time would be better spent publishing addresses of convicted/released pedophiles.

Most states have a Registered Sex Offender website.

Amen! The abortion comparison makes some squeemish - so I like your beer, porn, and tobacco examples as well.

I agree with reasonable limits on abortions and guns along with beer, porn, and tobacco. We seem to have limits on guns, porn, tobacco and beer - but not abortions. In many states a 15 year old can get an abortion without partental consent - but they cannot buy guns, beer, porn, or tobacco.

Things that make one go Hmmmm

Here is the real head scratcher.....It is easier for a 15 year old to buy crack than cigarettes or beer.

The person who wrote the article owns a gun but his name wasn't published because he doesn't live in the 2 counties detailed in the article. A third county - Putnam was asked for the same info but refused to submit it
"Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well."__ Alex in A Clockwork Orange, Stanley Kubrik, 1971

This little fable gets interestinger and interestinger.

In an exercise to educate the employees of the Journal News, a fellow named Robert Cox published the names and addresses of the employees of the Journal News online at Talk of the Sound. Said Mr. Cox, "I don’t think my map is particularly fair to the Journal News employees, many of them have nothing to do with the story, but that’s in the same spirit of the Journal News map which is equally unfair.”
The New York Times reports some unpleasantness directed at the Journal News employees by concerned citizens has resulted.

Meanwhile, a Mr. John Cox editor of the on-line Gawker published a list of
All the Assholes Who Own Guns in NYC supplied under a FOIA request by the NYPD, . . . subsequently edited to suggest not every gun owner in NYC is an asshole. The NYPD refused to supply Mr. Cox the addresses of the licensed owners, but he did post link to other websites with searchable data bases that do provide that information.
Mr. Cox singles out some public figures, specifically several associated with Fox News. Perhaps his motivation is political.

DonDiego is eager to see how this expanding episode eventually plays out.

[DonDiego is a mite disappointed with the limited discussion on this thread, . . . and the inclusion of unrelated topics like abortion and handgun assaults. But the reader need not fret; DonDiego will get over it.]

For the record: DonDiego may or may not possess a Ruger or Smith & Wesson or other-branded firearm(s) of 9mm or .38-special or other caliber(s).
The article(s) publishing the names/addresses of gunholders is a self defeating effort that plays directly into the hands of the NRA's conspiracy theory that the government is out to take away everyones' guns. Despite the reporters efforts being 100% legal, he is hurting his own cause...and that would make him an idiot in my opinion.

And this is why no common sense gun laws will be passed. The discussion is drowned out by dipsticks like the aforementioned reporter on one side...and mental patients like the one that went off on Piers Morgan on the other.

The current Biden-Discusion group has my sympathies.

Sorry Tutontow, but you are not a liberal. You may think you are, or wish you were because of the alternate title but alas, you are not.

Welcome to the dark side.................it'll be OK, we have cookies!

Well, at least the leader of the Biden-Discussion Group has revealed a possible solution:

" 'The president is going to act. Executive orders, executive action, can be taken,' Biden told reporters before meetings with groups representing survivors of mass shootings. 'We haven't decided what this is yet, but we're compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and all the rest of the Cabinet members.' "
Ref: CNN

"So let it be written, . . . so let it be done."___Rameses, The Ten Commandents, 1956, Cecil B. DeMille
And Don Diego has revealed his unconditional opposittion to whatever that discussion group comes up with - before even knowing what it is.
