That guy is Eric. He gained his original fame as being a regular caller to the Howard Stern show. Howard first called him "Eric the midget", which made Eric very mad. Howard was indirectly responsible for getting Eric a few very small acting gigs so Eric wanted to be called "Eric the Actor". Eric realized later on that "Eric the Actor" is not a recognized name by many producers, so Eric went back to "Eric the Midget".

Eric is confined to a wheel chair and has many of the physical problems associated with dwarves. He has to periodically use oxygen and has lived beyond his predicted life span.

I think the better point is not the use of the word oriental but the need somehow to include the race of the person involved. Why is pertinent, Bagiant? If it was a white male involved would you be describing his race? Have you in any of your other 11,000 posts on this board posted a story and referred to the race of a white person in the story? So why now? If this was a story about a criminal on the loose, sure the race would be part of the description and be pertinent. But in this story?

Now add to that the 1950's "oriental" term, and it really starts to smell. Do you refer to Japanees as "Japs" still like people did in the 50's? Do you refer to African Americans as "negros" in your stories?

For the person asking their asian friend if they were offended by the term "oriental", print for him or her the entire post. In context he or she should be able to point out why its offensive.

As I stated earlier, where do you draw the line in describing the driver? If it was a female driver that was mentioned, would that imply a shot at female drivers? If the driver was described as an "elderly" driver (with no mention of race or sex) would that be crossing the line?

Seriously, things have become absurd when it comes to political corectness.
Still not clear roulette man? What is the need to describe the race of the person involved? You still haven't answered that! The fact that I have to point that out again tells me you just don't get it.

Why her race but not her height, not her weight, NOT HER AGE, not what she was wearing, not what kind of car she was driving?. Why is the "oriental" the only thing that he thought to be pertinent here in her description?

I realize that many old timers were raised in an era and don't have racial sensitivity. It doesn't mean the rest of us have to stand for it!
Here are some other versions of bagiants post I'll just change the description. Do any of these description seem unnecessary? Racially insensitive?

I remember about 10 years ago...before they erected barriers to stop you from crossing into the wrong lane.....a Jew crossed the road going the wrong way and killed herself and her children. They didn't know if she had fallen asleep or had intentionally done so to commit suicide.

(hey he was jewish, I'm just telling it like it is, I'm not a bigot)

I remember about 10 years ago...before they erected barriers to stop you from crossing into the wrong lane.....a Negro crossed the road going the wrong way and killed herself and her children. They didn't know if she had fallen asleep or had intentionally done so to commit suicide.

(hey she was negro, I'm just telling it like it is, I'm not racist. Why is everyone so stuck up on that word. I work with some Negros!)

I remember about 10 years ago...before they erected barriers to stop you from crossing into the wrong lane.....a big boobed blonde crossed the road going the wrong way and killed herself and her children. They didn't know if she had fallen asleep or had intentionally done so to commit suicide.

(hey she was blonde and big boobed, I'm just telling it like it is, I'm not sexist)

I remember about 10 years ago...before they erected barriers to stop you from crossing into the wrong lane.....a Jap crossed the road going the wrong way and killed herself and her children. They didn't know if she had fallen asleep or had intentionally done so to commit suicide.

(hey she was a Jap, I'm just telling it like it is, I'm not sexist. Oh what? Now its against the law to call someone a Jap! Its just short for Japanese! Some people!)

I remember about 10 years ago...before they erected barriers to stop you from crossing into the wrong lane.....a Puerto Rican crossed the road going the wrong way and killed herself and her children. They didn't know if she had fallen asleep or had intentionally done so to commit suicide.

(hey she was a PR, I'm just telling it like it is, I'm not racist)

Is this getting any more clear?

It probably is irrelevent, but for Chillcoot to make a huge thing of it is just as wrong. What if it was an Asian tourist? Would that be irrelevent? By the way I do get it, but I don't think you get how stupid this argument is.

Your last sentence says it all.

I seriously doubt Bags including the word "oriental" in that post was an indication of prejudice of any kind on his part. It sure did bring out the PC crowd!

The Orient isn't Asia. Asia is a continent that includes the Orient, India and all of the former Soviet Union to mention most of the continent. To suggest that Asian is more acceptable as a description of all people who are native to Asia than Oriental is to describe people native to the far east counties of Asia really doesn't make much sense.

One of my sisters was a real African-American for almost 10 years. She owned a safari company in Arusha Tanzania. The term does not accurately describe her race, but it does describe a dual-citizenship. Like Asia, Africa is a continent that is native to more than one race.

I've actually seen people in the American media call Nelson Mandela an African-American because the PC crowd doesn't know what else to call them when identifying their race! They are Negro. There are way more Negros that live in countries that aren't America than there are Negros who live in America. The word "Negro" IS NOT a racist word. It is the actual word that designates a race. It's no different than Caucasian is the actual word that designates a race.

I'll seriously go apeshit if someone refers to me as an Occidental
That's it Orme !
Nobody calls me a Caucasian and gets away with it. You racist bastard you !!!! <hahahahahaha>

This whole thread is stupid. "Political Correctness"... boy, that hasn't caused any problems over the years !!
Someone needs a hug. Come back before it's too late (lol). By the way I love Asian chicken salads or was it Oriental chicken salads (ha-ha).
When you say a "chicken salad"... are you referring to a salad that's afraid to stand up for it's rights. Just wondering?? I want to make sure I'm politically correct.
