I wanted to mention that some casinos are now charging. Harrahs' is $4 per check.

Thanks Siswst852. Hey Snidely.... It would have been nice if you mentioned the check cashing charges when you were pimping your casino check cashing services.

My idea is gaining so much traction that those bastards at Harrah's are making a profit on it. And I'm not getting my fair cut for coming up with the idea.

Well I blame friedmush for that.

who?
If you're nervous about the amount of cash you're carrying then maybe your gambling budget is crossing the line between disposable income and serious money.

I wonder if friedmush could be getting a piece of Harrah’s lucrative check-cashing-for-a-fee business . . . you know, a little taste?

If so, that would explain why they cash HIS checks for free. I mean, it would almost be like he works for them or something. Hmmm . . .

Of course, I'm not suggesting ANYTHING. Just kind of thinking out loud.

Hey, the OP just said he is curious how everyone carries their money to Vegas. He didn't ask which is the best way. It isn't a contest.

Yeah pretty much just curious. I personally don't write checks anymore and prefer cash, although I don't really like carrying that much cash on me. I also find that if I take a "certain amount" of cash for my bankroll, then I stick to that amount.
OK, to close this discussion, I went straight to the horse's mouth. Well, I shouldn't call her a horse, she was a nice lady. I told her about the discussion on the board, though I left out a lot of details about Paula Deen, EllenMonster, and resort fees.

We are checking out of Harrahs Laughlin after a pit stop en route to Vegas. The cashier said no charge for Platinum or Diamond for a check in any amount (that you have funds in your own account). A $4 charge applies to Gold members.

She said that fewer and fewer banks are issuing travelers checks because they are so problematic and fraud prone. Turns out she and her husband have similar approach as we do, carrying light cash while traveling and cashing a check when they arrive at their destination.

So you're saying you DO get a kickback on all those Gold member check-cashing fees?

(It's a good thing you're a good sport, 'mush. Nice job nailing this one down.)

Jim, no worries. I find these threads highly amusing.
