Washington native americans

DonDiego just checked the internets for news.

Bruce Allen President of the Washington Redskins has responded to the 50 US Senators who recommended a name change: To The Honorable Senator Harry Reid

Apparently Mr. Allen is standing on principle. DonDiego is not offended.
All this mumbo jumbo about how the "Redskins" name originated is irrelevant to most Liberals. The name was invented by Indians, yet Liberals tell Indians to "Please be very offended!. Please please please be offended.

As usual, it's the whiny, screaming minority that gets heard over the majority when it comes to political correctness.

Wanting to be called a flight attendent? Sure, no big deal. Changing the name of an NFL team that's been around for 80 yrs and is steeped in tradition over a few offended folks(remindr;the minority by far)? N-O. No friggin way. There's no comparing the two at all, not even close.

Change the name to the Washington Warriors and keep the logo. Who cares what the name is? Tradition is over rated. If memory serves the Houston Colt 45's became the Houston Astros, the Washington Bullets became the Washington Wizards, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays lost their Devil. I bet there are even more examples. It's not a big deal....

To my earlier point....

None of the " no big deal" Anti-PC people on this thread are native Americans. (Wow! saying Native Americans was tough!). If you want to know how Native Americans feel you can ask one of them....or you can just ask Boilerman / Jatki.. Readers can decide for themselves who has more insight.

And if you want to point our resident conservatives BS on this topic simply remind them of the shit fit they through when Obama said something politically incorrect about people clinging to religion and guns.

As long as DonDiego chooses to ignore about 500 years of American history, I can understand his feeling this way. Besides, DonDiego never lynched anyone or kept anyone away from his whites-only drinking fountain, so it's all cool, right?

Coincidentally, this Memorial Day weekend we are called to actually remember our shared history and heroes, and reflect upon their profound effect on all of us. And no doubt there are shallow, self-centered, punks who choose not to remember both our proud and shameful history, simply because they weren't around when all that history happened.

Maybe they'll grow up to be just like DonDiego.
I think we as a society have grown way too serious and way too sensitive. I am Irish and German and you know how many slurs and stereotypes go with that. Quite frankly I find most of this PC crap ridiculous. I have never taken offense to all of the overbearing Irish Catholic mothers you see in Hollywood films and the same goes for the alcoholic Irish fathers you see in film. BTW my father being German was not six feet tall with blonde hair and blue eyes and he never drank dark beer.

We need to lighten up and not take ourselves so damn seriously and as DonDiego stated if people speak with their pockets that name would change in a heartbeat. With all of the problems in this country for our elected officials to even give this subject the time of days speaks volumes for how far out of touch Washington is.

In reference to a lot of titles such as stewardess, mailman, fireman, secretary etc. I believe a lot of those titles were changed when men started being hired in jobs that woman always held and vice versa.

I have never known a woman who was offended by being called secretary or stewardess. My wife who experienced the glass ceiling and was in the workforce for forty years was never bothered by being called a secretary when she was one. She will tell you straight up that is what she was.
I don't know if Snyder will ever develop the minimal level of decency required to change his crummy football team's name to something other than the Redskins. Seems like he won't, but I'm a hopeful sort.

However, it's a certainty that he will be the final owner of the "Redskins". Someday the team will have a different owner, and when it does it'll be called something else. "Redskins" is very bad business, and the NFL is all business.

Harry Reid, leader of the "big deal" PC crowd, is also not a Native Americans so his opinion is just as worthless. Of course, he's a lying piece of crap and magically claims that two million Native Americans are offended by this.

That question was answered in the letter to Harry Reid in DD's link. Did you miss the part where 90% of native americans did not find the name offensive. and if you want to ask me as I'm part Indian, my tenth generation great grandmother was Pocahontas ,I'm not offended in the least. Granted I'm mostly Irish and English, but I still have a say, right?
