It is not fraud they have legitimate health issues, and the proof they are unable to work is that they have no job. So unless you can supply them a job you don't have an argument they are committing fraud.

What you call abuse is what I call a symptom of a larger problem. Disability rolls are growing because there aren't enough jobs for 45-65 year olds. Folks in this age range run out of unemployment and a lot of them have a preexisting medical condition of some type so they apply for disability. Fix the jobs problem and the disability problem will take care of itself.

Here are just a few examples of people abusing the Disability System -- There are also numerous stories of people abusing Food Stamps, Medicade, and other programs.

I am convinced many people need assistance. I am also convinced many people are abusing the system.

What we need is some welfare reform like we had in the 1990's with Gingrich and Clinton.

If we prosecuted those who defrauded the government, we could also get rid of the issue.....what a concept.

So are you saying the "Obama recovery" ain't as good as advertised? Shocking!

I personally know people on government disability who go horseback riding......while I go to work every day to pay for their "disability". Is it any wonder I am disillusioned? Also, look at the stats, people who cannot find jobs are obviously going on disability, but it makes the unemployment rate look better doesn't it?
Yes it does make unemployment look better, but once their benefits run out they are no longer counted either. In other words people don't apply for disability unless they have exhausted their unemployment because once you apply for disability (saying you can't work anymore) you are no longer eligible for unemployment.

But yes if you have been unemployed for two years or more and your 40+ you have a good chance of stringing enough of your preexisting conditions together to qualify for disability. Proof that your disabled is that you haven't been able to find a job you can work. In order to win the case against you the government has to prove there are jobs you can work.

Again most of these people would rather work because the disability benefits aren't that great. So if you can create enough jobs the disability problem will disappear.
