Those kind of threads are still here, but they aren't as frequent as they have been in the past. There are at least 3 on the first page as I'm typing this. Also, I think if you start your own thread(s) with specific inquiries about what you find of interest, you would get the kind of responses and info that you want. It's pretty easy to just ignore the other stuff. Quite a few people participate in threads dedicated to both Vegas related and non-Vegas related topics. To each his or her own in a free-for-all forum is how I see it.

Bob is correct, start something about Vegas, it'll get reply's with answers comments or whatever you're looking for. The problem is people can only talk about how crappy 6/5 NJ or whatever for so long. I'll try and participate in anything I can help out with or comment on. Just ignore the other stuff if it bothers you.

Really?? My experience is the extremist right wingers are the ones who start political garbage. Understandably, the left want to respond.

When is the last time a lefty started the can't win political nonsense?

I get direct P.M's on these boards from people asking questions because they are afraid to post their thoughts or questions due to fear of the wrath from those 3 or 4 people who are ruining the boards (for me anyway).......sad, very sad

Not sure what gets accomplished. The right or left supporters take their stance on each topic. They find supporting documentation for their side and add their own dialogue. There is no open discussion with thoughtful review that the other side may have a valid point on any portion of the topic. The left stays left and the right stays right. Then the name calling starts. Kind of mimics our politicians as nothing seems to get accomplished. But it can be entertaining and hopefully it is a release for some folks. 90% of the good information is on the paid side. Except for the fact that people like Jman(Jon) willingly share their great trip reports on this side, there wouldn't be much here.

Message boards like this one are largely obsolete when it comes to reviewing hotels, shows, and restaurants. You'll find thousands of reviews on places like Yelp or Tripadvisor or Hotels.com. You are probably going to get more recent information from a wider perspective on those sites. The LVA newsletter is still nice as far as learning about new places and gambling conditions. And very specific questions can sometimes be answered here...for example, I recently asked if Pavilion rooms at El Cortez have room safes...and a fellow poster informed me they did not. That's nice.

The political threads here are largely just trash talking - people regurgitating what they heard last night on cable news. I confess that I participate in them (though I rarely start them). I've found other places to discuss politics on a more thoughtful level where people don't contradict themselves or their values in the name of scoring points. I spend most of time here showing people how something they said today contradicts what they said two weeks ago. I don't expect to learn anything new....or them for that matter...its just kinda fun sometimes.
