Whats up with the cost of potato chips?

Even when you buy a large bag, 90% of it seems to be air. It always seems they could fit the same amount of actual chips into a much smaller bag.

Tim

Warren MI $4.29 for a 10 ounce of Lays 2 bags for $6.00 for 10 ounce bags of Herrs;;very much highway robbery micro popcorn prices are insane....pretzels are not priced out rageously yet..McD is very our priced for just sandwiches here almost $6.00 for quarter pounder without the combo sides can go to a sit down get waited on with free refills on coffee cheaper than McD's around here. Anything fast food is way high. White castles are .70 each now. I remember my first one was .10 and given to you on a white paper plate.

In CA, the chip are almost always on sale. 2 bags for $4.
Well some of you must live in chip utopia to have 2 dollar chips.

Never go to Dollar General, eh?

OR

Kroger
Howdy Tim M..

The inert gas in the bag is there to prevent them from going stale and to inflate the bag to act as a cushion during shipping & while on the shelf, otherwise the chips would get crushed and all you would have is a bag of crumbs.
I don't remember from the episode of Unwrapped on Food Newtwork, but they went into the Lays factory to show how the process goes from a truck of potato's being dumped into a storage bin and goes through the whole process. Pretty interesting, now I can see why they are expensive in some parts of the US.

Canada is fun place for chips. On a trip to Kingston, ON I stopped to gas up & get munchies. I tried the Dill favored chips (pretty good) and white cheddar were not bad and the ketchup (not bbq) ones were just nasty.
