Gee. What's wrong with prentending to be whores and tricking horny old guys into committing verbal crimes? It's not like they're encouraging or enticing someone to commit a crime just to arrest them. Afterall they have a higher purpose of stopping prostitution. Yeah, right.

It's not criminal but there are a lot of words to describe this kind of police work. Words like sleazy and wasteful come to mind.
I prefer "complicit" or "enablers," but let's not argue about it.

treegirl, how would you feel as a cop having busted someone for marijuana possession, imprisoning or disqualifying some kid from getting a college loan or scholarship - for life? What if you looked back on a police career that included busting gays - for being gay? But it was illegal! Yeah, that makes it all better, doesn't it?.

I understand cops and ex-cops suffer inordinately from depression, alcoholism, and suicide. Maybe it's because some of the things we make them do to their fellow human beings. I would think that people who care about cops would want to stop that sort of thing.

But I know treegirl, cognitive dissonance is a bitch, especially when it includes a paycheck.

OK. Perhaps i should have said " i think the cops are just as bad as the criminals for doing what they are doing". Is that better? You are just nit picking. You do know what a nit is don't you? Should i explain that also? I think nit fits well in this particular response.
The only tool we have in this forum is words. Pick the right ones to make your point, or people won't get what you're trying to convey.

The non nitpickers understood his point just fine. It's not complicated.

I took nemesis at his word when he wrote the following:

(1) the cops were as guilty as the Johns;

(2) the cops were the real prostitutes; and

(3) the cops have committed a crime.

That's what he wrote, and now backed off of.

If this new alanleroy could tell nemesis didn't really mean what he wrote, well, I bow to the new alanleroy's mindreading skills. I'm forced to go by what people write.

Prostitution is illegal... When you take out a lady you pay for her meal entertainment and drinks... In the end you hope to score... Is that prostitution?
Anti- prostitution females have to be pro life right? Because I always thought a women was free to do with her body what she pleases... Kill babies or have sex for money... It's her body after all

Prostitution in an area leads to other crimes. That is a fact.

HUH? How in the world is tghis a fact? I know druggies steal and commit crimes because they need it for more drugs but I've never heard or believe john q hard-on ever committed a crime because he needed a BJ.

One does not have to be a mind reader to understand the points Nemesis made. One only has to be able to read English and have some basic comprehension skills. Let me explain it to you.

Nemesis questioned the purpose, validity and value of sting operations. He stated directly that these operations have in fact been held LEGAL. He obviously knows that no 'real' crime has been committed by the police.

Then he goes on to state that the 'police are as guilty as the men [involved]...' and 'the cops are the prostitutes and have themselves committed a crime'. These statements are QUALIFIED by the prepositional phrases: "As far as I'm concerned" and "In my mind". Those phrases relegate his statements to the realm of Opinion. He is commenting on his view of the Ethics of the situation, not its true legality.

Nemesis is clearly expressing his PERSONAL disdain for the police tactic of encouraging citizens to commit victimless crimes via trickery. He is suggesting that these stings may be legal but they are wrong ‘as far as he’s concerned’. If he had his way, these tactics would be illegal.

Please let me know if you need further explanation. Like I said, it's not complicated.
