A Shack for Lobster — Right on the Strip

A Shack for Lobster — Right on the Strip

Like No Pants at Caesars, Luke’s Lobster Shack is in a small shipping container. This one is right at the corner of the Strip and Park Avenue, which runs between Park MGM and New York-New York; it’s kitty-corner from another shack called Shake.

Also like No Pants, it has an extremely limited menu: two-, four-, and six-ounce shrimp, crab, and lobster rolls ($12-$35), with New England clam chowder ($7/$10), poppy-seed slaw ($3), chips ($2), and soda ($4). That’s it.

We wanted to try everything, so we ordered the trio of shellfish rolls, three rolls at two ounces each. We could’ve passed on the shrimp roll, about what you’d expect from baby Bays, though we did enjoy it. The crab roll was definitely worth trying.

But the lobster roll stole the show: two big claws, probably an ounce each, and a few extra chunks.

This isn’t lobster salad with a lot of mayo, celery, and seasoning (like the one at the Resorts World Caviar Bar cocktail hour; see our upcoming review), just the merest hint of dressing that brings out the exquisite taste of this sultan of shellfish.

Even the hot dog rolls are excellent, grilled and buttered to perfection.

For the sampler, slaw, bottle of blueberry lemonade, and tip, the bill came to a little over $40. We finished the meal — with relish! Judging by the two-ounce rolls, the six-ouncers are a meal and a half.

As we’re wont to say these days, yes, $50 for the large lobster, slaw, drink, tax, and tip is perhaps a bit expensive, but they’re all worth it. Everything is just more expensive these days. It’s the new normal and you simply have to get used to paying these prices. It’s the way it is.

But you get to be amazed by the fabulous fresh seafood coming out of an 18-foot-wide by four-foot-deep standalone shipping container plopped down three feet from Las Vegas Boulevard. And you get to sit outside in the Park, which was quite pleasant when we there on a Saturday evening in August in the shade. What a treat to look forward to after making your way through the Paradox Museum right across the Strip.

  1. When we were in Las Vegas in September, we ate at the Luke’s located outside of the Fashion Show Mall across from the Wynn. We found it to be tasty, but not cheap. It’s definitely a different kind of fast food. However, it sounds like the ambiance at the Park is nicer.

  2. I’m more hungry now after viewing this article. This is a great choice.
