Golden Nugget Atlantic City was packing them in with a ‘george’ promotion. Let our East Coast correspondent tell the tale: “It was extremely busy Sunday afternoon in their atrium for the BMW X-5 giveaway. They called six names and three were MIA, so they called three more, and two of those also not there. Each person got a sealed envelope and when they got six there, one lucky person got the car, the others free slot/table play.” The next Hard Rock Atlantic City promo? Logo umbrellas that have flashlights embedded in the handles. Not as george as a BMW but darned useful.

“The photo of the corridor at Ocean Casino Resort is not a wide-angle photo, just an ordinary phone photo. Ocean Casino has so much wasted space. Doesn’t every casino have a two-acre park overlooking the ocean?”

“When ‘Revel‘ opened, they even had leisure furniture in the spaces so people could relax without gambling, drinking or eating. The Atlantic City homeless soon found a great place to take a nap. Almost all of the furniture is now gone.” Call it a lesson in what Jim Murren would term New Urbanism.

Sports betting died a regrettably predictable death in the Kentucky Lege yesterday … but that’s the least of Churchill Downs‘ concerns. The company is under investigation in New Hampshire, where its advance-deposit wagering (conducted under the TwinSpires banner) is accused of “operating without a license or any other regulatory permission.” Churchill Downs—which is bringing “historical horse racing” machines to the Granite State—responds that it is in full compliance with the federal Interstate Horse Racing Act. The New Hampshire Lottery is the aggrieved party, complaining that Churchill Downs is evading tax obligations to the state.
“It’s hundreds of thousands of dollars annually and they have been doing this for a number of years so it’s a significant amount of money,” lottery Executive Director Charlie McIntyre told TV station WMUR. “They are not regulated by us, nor do they operate within the confines of state law. It is a gray area of concern for us because all of the gambling in this state happens through us. We license or regulate it. In this case, neither.” He added that he’d tried a direct appeal to Churchill Downs but had been blown off.
Added state senator and casino advocate Lou D’Allesandro (D), “The big thing in all of this is the state’s ability to control this. Otherwise it gets way out of hand and once it gets out of control there is no bringing it back.” Churchill Downs, in the meanwhile, is putting down roots at Chaser’s Poker Room, across the road from horse track Rockingham Park. Opponents of Churchill Downs are quick to point out that sports betting monopoly owner DraftKings doesn’t think it’s too big to be licensed by the Lottery.

Jottings: Casinos like Encore Boston Harbor talk a good game when it comes to diversity but their workforces have become a whiter shade of pale post-Covid. “Young people, low-wage workers, women, [and] people of color bore the brunt of the job losses and reductions in hours. A lot of that was because of the sectors that those people are heavily represented in—food and beverage, gaming and recreation, hotel departments—these are areas with high concentrations of workers of color. They were also some of the areas that were most affected by the layoffs,” said University of Massachusetts senior research analyst Thomas Peake. That’s cause for serious concern going forward … A clarification of New York‘s “25%” slots tax rate for downstate casinos: It’s set at $750 per installed slot, with the monies raised going toward treatment of gambling addiction … Speaking of disordered gaming, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, owners of Palms Casino Resort, is underwriting a new study by the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Details are sketchy at this point but “As indigenous people we know firsthand how addictions can destroy generations of families and communities and we have worked tirelessly to improve conditions by investing in resources that will rebuild heathy and resilient communities,” according to tribal spokesman Jacob Coin … Tribal Graton Resort & Casino, in California, plans a major expansion that includes 144,000 additional square feet of gaming, a second hotel tower and a water tank. At present, the casino offers 3,000 slots and 144 table games … Have a happy and healthy Easter weekend, friends.

Maybe the people that stayed to work had more seniority, did the people doing the research check that out and put it in their stats?
“Chaser’s Poker Room” easily wins the Best Name Contest, in history… Chaser’s annoy me in the short term, but enrich me in the long term. Chaser’s are known to be nocturnal, plied by alcohol, and they lack patience… If there are eight players at the table, it’s ideal to have three dedicated Chaser’s, the rest of us will gladly take turns, too many Chaser’s is never as bad as too few, too few means no action…

Revel was designed to have appx 2,500 more rooms than it does now. Not only was the original tower never built; but neither was the entire second tower which was to have appx 2000 more rooms. It makes sense that their corridors are so large but in the spirit of the pic, yes, it seems awkward today.
In regards to the sky deck, I never saw a homeless person camping out there. they removed most of the hills and plants. Furniture is still there. I was relaxing in one of the many rocking chairs just last week by a fire pit overlooking the ocean just last week.
Revel (now Ocean). What I meant to say was the original tower was never completed and the 2nd tower never built (just stubbed out).
