I'm waiting for one of our conservitards to scream, "VENEZUELA! VENEZUELA! VENEZUELA!!!!!! SEE, I told you so! SOOOOOOOOCIALISM!!!" Ignoring, of course, Sweden's place on the lists...
If we're the wealthiest country in the world (which we're not, not even close, not on a per capita basis), then why are we...nineteenth in happiness? Could it...could it be...that the Republican shibboleth that wealth is the sole source of human happiness is...wrong?
The top ten countries on the happiness list share several common characteristics. First and foremost is wealth and income equality. Dozens of studies have shown that wealth and the well-being it brings are relative, not absolute. If basic necessities are met, then people are happiest when they are neither richer nor poorer than their neighbors. Other shared characteristics are democracy, a strong social welfare system, and universal health care. And yes, boys and girls...high taxation.
But we've never tried this model in the US. Why not? Because the rich don't want to get any less rich, and they are and have always been in power and utterly ruthless about keeping it. What's more, they have been wildly successful in convincing a large segment of the population that the we-run-everything societal model is not only the most efficient but also ethical, moral, and right. Darwinian economics.
As a country and a society, we've at best achieved mediocrity. As a nation blessed with an abundance of natural resources and unscarred by war for almost 150 years, we should have been able to do better than that. America. Whee!

"Seems to" being the operative phrase here. You actually don't know diddly-squat about me. But feel free to say ignorant things about me--this is the Sink, after all!
I would rather you expend the energy of praying for me on something useful, like maybe donating a nickel to a homeless shelter.
Roger is just making a reasonable observation about you based on the hateful statements you've posted on just about every thread in this forum, like you did when you called Kavanaugh a rapist in the Cuomo thread.
I think he probably is a rapist. And as far as "hateful"--yes, I do hate traitors, thieves, and liars, and the Republican voters who support them. Deal with it. Make all the "reasonable observtaions" (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) you wish.
Kevin Lewis notes: "There is a factor not considered in the Credit Suisse report: stability of government and the extent to which it serves the people."
Poor old DonDiego opines there's lots of factors not considered in the Credit Swiss report.
Until KevinLewis mentioned them, . . . poor old DonDiego, himself, was unaware of "high level governmet officials fervently believing in conspiracy theories" such as "magical voting machines", "Jewish space lasers", and "Democrats eating babies".
DonDiego supposes Credit Suisse may, likewise, be unaware.
Poor old DonDiego sure hopes somebody does something about those problems, especially "Democrats eating babies", . . . and soon !
Oh, . . . and poor old DonDiego, although not quite a member of the "top 1%", is enjoying a comfortable retirement with his spouse in a lovely State, punctuated by occasional travel to places near and far. He doesn't recall worrying about collapse of the USA even during his absences. And, anyway, . . . if the USA were to fall during his absence he'd likely be able to sneak back in through Canada.
I've often wondered how LVA has escaped being sued for libel.
Here’s another reasonable observation, your attacks, rants and bullying against your fellow citizens you disagree with remind me of someone else, mmmm, let me see...... Donald J Trump! like him, you've already been banned once from this website for your vile comments, maybe you should tone down your venomous rhetoric Donny, I mean Kevin, before they make it permanent.
Oh I forgot. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

While I'm creeped out by your obsession with me, I'm also flattered. I mean, if I can yank the chain of Trump supporters so hard that they start dancing around and chattering like chimpanzees at the zoo, that's good work!
Phil, I've unaware of Trump being banned from this website. Did you really mean that, or were you just making a pathetically failed attempt to form an articulate thought?
"Vile" and "venomous"---ooh, it gives me shivers!!!! I'm sure I'll continue to say vile and venomous things like supporting universal health care, expanding voting rights, income equality, and combating climate change (which, for Republicans, would have to start by acknowledging that it exists!).
GREEN NEW DEAL! GREEN NEW DEAL! SOOOOOOOCIALISM!!!!! Be afraid, Phil. Be very afraid.
