If only Biden had approved the XL pipeline............

Did you get that assertion from a verifiable source or a friend?

Recent US Refinery builds and expansions

Why will the tar sands oil be exported?  It already is.

- The gulf refinieries are already going at 95% capacity which is not sustainable.    So they cant handle more crude then they are already getting.    Thats why the crude oil itself is being shipped unrefined to Europe from those  ports.   Thats already happenng with today's supply.      You want to increase the crude going there?  Fine.  Its not going to get refined in those ports and it wont go to US gasoline supply.    In short, it would do nothing for your price at the pump.

So its just a question if you believe the negligible amount of world supply created by the Canadian tar sands is worth the ongoing environmental disaster its creating.  I would say no.

Thank you for proving my point that there has only been 1 major refinery built since 1977.  I reviewed that data before you every posted it.  Large numbers confuse Liberals.

Regarding exports, we are exporting sweet crude, and importing sour crude.  How about we bring in sour crude via Keystone phase 4, blend it with sweet crude in Montana (we have no domestic home for these sweet volumes), and then ship that blended product to US refineries?  Gee, that would lead to less imports from, say, Saudi Arabia.  What a fucking novel idea.

I believe the link I provided spelled out all of the additional capacity at existing and new refinieries - several as recently as this year.      I didnt see anything about your point of Joe Biden and liberals blocking that expansion   And you didnt provide anything on that point either beyond you saying so.   I think we all know what that means, dont we?

Regardless your main point of this thread regarding Keystoine XL reducing domestic gas prices is complete bullpucky.   ANd thanks for stopping by !

In 2012, Motiva upgraded its refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, making it the largest U.S. refinery, with a capacity of 626,000 b/cd as of January 1, 2022. In 2015,

In 2015 Valero expanded its Corpus Christi, Texas refinery after previous expansions, bringing its capacity as of January 1, 2022, to 290,000 b/cd.

The above plants expanded their capacity in 2012 & 2015.

The chart shows that the US had 141 plants in 2017 & now it is 130.  Capacity has dropped from 20.1m in 2020 to 18.9m barrels now.  That is a 6.0% decline

It's less difficult getting a refinery expansion approval past the Democrats, but it's always a fight.  Once again, the last major refinery built was in 1977.  There have been many proposed.

Canada oil is cheaper by 10%, plus it needs to be blended with sweet crude which are now exporting.  It would lower gasoline prices, but not be a bunch.  It would substantially decrease the volume of oil we are importing from bad countries.  I'd much rather do business with Canada vs Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Venezuala.

Thanks for spelling out the expansion that occurred under "liberals" in the WHite House.

But to the extent some refineries shut down or reducred capacity...

Many refineries went bankrupt...and other switched to refining other proudcts with higher profit margins.   Those are developments of free market economics which I thought people like you advocated.

I couldnt find a source anywhere to back up the assertion that "liberals"  and "Joe Biden"  reduced or stopped expansion of refineries.

More importantly, it seems you cant either.

It is only in the last 2 years that the policy of democrats is to end fossil fuels. If the WH policy is to end fossil fuels why should any company invest billions & time to build a plant?

And somehow transporting oil at a higher cost is good for business?  When is a Lib going to tell us about lithium and batteries?

Liberals think green energy will magically appear

From msn.com

Two lithium mines and a geothermal power plant in the works in the biggest U.S. gold-mining state are under attack from conservationists, tribes and others who otherwise generally support Biden's efforts to expedite the transition from fossil fuels to renewable

But in addition to concerns about toxic waste, the mine sits on federal land local tribes say is a sacred site where dozens of their ancestors were massacred by the U.S. Cavalry in 1865.

Another big lithium mine still on the drawing board, halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, is home to a rare desert wildflower the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed for listing under the Endangered Species Act.

Meanwhile, the geothermal power plant faces cultural and environmental challenges in a case pending before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
