More Magical Electric Cars

PJ, you can't even back up the lies you've made about my comments from this week.  How can you ever back up this lie.

Libs complain to those speaking the truth.

Boiler, your weaseling only multiplies your existing dishonor.

Accept that the world is changing and that black people are human, or die off. Nobody cares either way.

I recall about 100 threads on this very board when the Chevy Volt came out.   And our resident conservatives slapped thier knee at the sum total of the liberal fanatsy of ev vehicles that only went 50 miles on a charge.

And when people like me said that was first generation technology, people like you slapped their knee and said I was full of shit and EV cars would never improve or take hold in any way.

And now you've been forced to backtrack your argument to arguing about the timeline.   Yeeeeeee-Haw.

The Flintstones suck at technology.    10 years from now you'll have to move your goalposts yet again.

It must be nice defending the merits of conservatism without actually identifying any conservative politicians that you support. I guess you can just imagine a "conservative Jesus," and not have to deal with reality.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, you've got Trump, Desantis, and most Republican politicians who defended the blackmail of Ukraine and the 1/6 insurrection, deleting women's rights, and gay rights, closing libraries, and threatening school board members and even Disney.

Are those the merits of conservatism?

Oh, and I left off the worst of them. You know, the Republican politicians who oppose much of the above, but are too cowardly to speak out against them. You know, like just about all of them.

Uh-huh..you're about 2 months behind on my voiced support of future Republican presidential candidates in this very forum. The point is, you and your colleagues herein are going to disparage ( and already routinely have, actually) said support irregardless of who it might be and then try and tell me how to run my life and make my own personal; decisions. You don't have enough power to accomplish that, Mr P...nor do any of your spectrum-mates in here. When you start paying my bills and assist with keeping a smile on my old lady's face, etc..we could talk about my acquiescence to your sneakily-worded and intentionally offensive manipulative techniques. But, still it is exceedingly unlikely to happen..Fair enough?

I'll likely vote for DeSantis ..should he run (probable). Two years, who knows, they might catch him with a goat I'm unaware of that might affect my future vote. So take that and run with it, you and your side here. i said that two months ago in here..you missed it, apparently. I'm gonna count to three..and toss that representative raw ribeye steak in the center of the room and watch you and your pitbull crew maul it. Enjoy. That what you were after? There it is.

and Cheers...1, 2, 3...( watch your feet, legs and wallett)

Further, if you  win the bet you and I made earlier here, you won't have to engage me anymore, cause I promise you I'll honor it. That'll be good EV for both of us. *l*.

This debate will be over quite soon. Two generations whose financial well-being has depended on to what extent the fossil fuel companies wish to bend them over at any given time aren't going to stand for it any longer. Period.

I literally cannot fathom how a well-spoken and intelligent person such as yourself could observe DeSantis and even remotely consider him to be worthy of the highest office in the land. It's like standing at the counter at Baskin-Robbins at asking for dogshit and iron filings on your sundae.

It's kind of sad, truth be told.

Do you truly not see how that man, and his equally loud-bleating ilk, are nothing more than self-aggrandizing, narcissistic blowhards whose concern for others is far lass than that of a howling toddler with diaper rash?*

*rhetorical question

Libs claim that speaking the truth about the US and the world's capability to produce the needed battery raws makes me anti-EV.  That's is disingenuous.

It will ramp up over time, but it's gonna take decades.

Guys, how much Lithium will we need, and how will we get it?

@Kevin..You don't have to fathom my choices..just your own. You aren't compelled to agree, and simultaneously I'm not forced to agree with yours. We disagree..that's the end of it. Slinging insults doesn't really benefit anybody, imo. You got the first chunk of that ribeye..hope it was satisfactory. *l* Further, my prospective vote for DeSantis doesn't guarantee he'll win ( assuming he in fact does run), which potentially leaves a lot of room for your side to kick some conservative ass at the polls. Form a lobby / political funding group..eg 'The LVA Kitchen Sink Liberal Consortium' or some such. That might be more contributory to your goal of ridding the world of conservative and narcisisstic blowhards. *l*

Arrivederci...

How much we'll need will depend on the extent to which lithium is the ONLY substance from which EV batteries can be fabricated. And other methods are being developed.

But in the short to medium term, whatever lithium we need, we'll produce domestically, trade for it, or buy it. You know, like tens of thousands of other commodities. There's no shortage of lithium deposits worldwide.

One technology that already exists (just to give you one example) is rechargeable hydrogen fuel cells. And we ain't gonna run out of hydrogen! Those powered the Appollo missions. I could name a dozen others.

The EV train is too far down the track to derail it now..it's unstoppable. The US is far from ready to support it from a raw materials and supportive logistics standpoints ( ie charging ports, battery technology, car manufacturing plant transitions, on and on). Everybody knows all those things..some arguments seem centered on when it will become mainstream and then at what point evolving technologies will allow the industry to be affordable for average Joe drivers. The cost aspect is what grates on me currently, though any transformational change of this magnitude never generates self-sustaining revenues early on. Our tax dollar subsidies ( and purchase rebates) are already in force due to previous and recently enacted legislation, so we can expect some wasteful spending in that whole process somewhat similar to that seen with the oil and gas industriy subsidies past and current. Just to confirm one of my conservative stances, wasteful spending for whatever reason pisses me off *l*. I saw a stat that reported that roughly 5% of all vehicles on our roads currently are EV's. Long way to go  for lots of reasons, but it's inevitable.

I'm going to take a wild and unscientific/ nonstatistical guess that this overall EV technology, raw materials, and affordability aspects might be mainstream in 20 years (perhaps earlier in California, but i won't be residing there *l*).  By that time, what's remaining of my family will have absconded with my drivers license anyway for roadway safety reasons. Does anybody have an opinion when all this transformation will be mainstream? I'll bet you do *l*.

I really just wanted to make one post that was topical to the thread, as opposed to who in the hell I'm going to potentially vote for. *l*

PJ, unlike most Libs, I argue for the future and present.  We will not be mostly EV's in 20 years.  Just wait for the Salton Sea Lib generated battle.  Most Libs won't do their homework on this issue due to their inherent laziness..........a characteristic held by most Libs.

No you dont.   Democrats just passed the biggest past/future energy bill oin our history which opens up record amounts of territory for drilling oil and also builds out massive amounts of EV infrastructure.   Republicans almost unanimously VOTED against this past and future energy bill....and yopu've madew it clear they have your support in doing so.

And yet here you are complaining about "Liberals blocking" energy endeavors.    Kinda frickin hilarious, aint it?
