World Health Organization: Covid lockdowns doing more harm than good

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Tom's post and Mister's post.

Different statistics cited, as if one proved the other wrong.

So you're saying that when there are two competing arguments, you are incapable of evaluating the completeness and credibility of each?

Maybe you're right.

Kevin is funny.  I posted a video of a senior doctor from the WHO talking about the detrimental effects of lockdowns on the economy, which is leading to more child malnutrition and a double of the poor across the world.  Kevin tells us that this video should be ignored because it was made public by a conservative organization.

Kevin believes the truth is unimportanted if presented by one who holds differing views than his.  How does this make sense, even to Kevin?

Bullshit is "unimportanted" no matter who peddles it.

And yes, Boiler, that's a very good reason to ignore it. That, and the fact that it's one man spouting an opinion that has been refuted by thousands of infectious disease experts from all over the world.

Thank you, Kevin.   Apples and oranges.  Tuition you paid for English comp classes was not wasted!

No, actually, Candy, "apples and oranges" refers to comparing two things that should not be compared.

"False equivalence" refers to equating two things that should not be equated.

You learn a lot about logical fallacies when you listen to Trump and the Republiholes speak.

Candy was against gratuitous insults before she was for them.

Well I was hoping Kevin wouldn't turn it political, but I know he always will.  It is his passion.

I appreciate Kevin educating me on the term "false equivalence" in which I believe he was sincere.   I looked up the term, where "apples and oranges" was cited as an example.  Maybe wrong, maybe right.

It was a worthwhile exchange between us, regardless.

MisterPicture, on the other hand, is just plain nasty.

To further clarify--we had two people present statistics, which contradicted one another, and you implied that they had equal credibility or equal lack thereof. That was a false equivalence, as the two sources differed greatly in veracity and reliability.

No matter what you or I may think of them both, Mister Picture's arguments, and the sources he uses, are FAR more coherent and logical than Tom's. Thus, when both of them assert something to be true, and provide statistics to back up their arguments, I'm much more inclined to believe Mister Picture. And before you say that's because his politics agree with mine, I assure you, that's not the case. Mister Picture is much more inclined to report the facts (and to understand them) than Tom is.

It's sort of like saying that CNN said one thing and Fox News said another---or for that matter, Trump said one thing and Biden the opposite---and throwing up your hands and saying that each side's arguments have equal weight and validity. They don't.

And Candy---I wish a discussion about the WHO wasn't political. But Trump has made listening or not listening to health authorities a political football.

And BTW, Candy, I would burn that dictionary, as no one claims that apples and oranges are equal or equivalent. Terrible example.
