I dodge nothing...I simply admit I am not a medical professional and defer my response to people who are educated experts in the field.

I dont acknowledge your questions because you are not an informed, educated professional in the field and your scenarios are based on your uninformed delusions. Instead of asking questions based on your own inogrance of the topic you should apologize for spreading irresponsible paranoia (like when you falsely make up fairy takes about Ebola being airborne).

You mean the educated experts in the field who've already allowed two nurses to become infected with the virus?

I've always considered you one of the most intelligent posters on this bd PJ but your position doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm glad you're so trusting of our "experts" who are in charge, but I'm not in the least. I'm also not worried about catching ebola or anything myself, certainly not panicked but how many bonehead moves will be made before this thing does get out of it.

"Don't worry, I'm from the govt and I'm here to help" Like I said before, I'm glad this statement gives you the warm and fuzzzys, it will always scare the living shit outta me.

Signs and symptoms typically begin abruptly within five to 10 days of infection with Ebola or Marburg virus. Early signs and symptoms include:

Fever
Severe headache
Joint and muscle aches
Chills
Weakness

Over time, symptoms become increasingly severe and may include:

Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea (may be bloody)
Red eyes
Raised rash
Chest pain and cough
Stomach pain
Severe weight loss
Bleeding, usually from the eyes, and bruising (people near death may bleed from other orifices, such as ears, nose and rectum)
Internal bleeding

Sounds hauntingly like a hangover I had one time, I believe tequilla induced. I'm positive my eyeballs were bleeding at one point.

If an "outbreak" of 2 people scares the shit out of you or meets your description of government incompetence then I can only imagine what Halloween must be like at your house. Do you hide in the basement until Nov 1?

Bottom line, it's inevitable that Ebola would come to America. It probably won't come to North Korea. The solution is to develop drugs to treat it or vaccine to prevent it. We're not going to stop it by trying to keep track of every patient who has flu-like symptoms. But it might make some sense to try and limit the spread of Ebola while drugs are developed. Drug development, tox studies, clinical studies and scale up shouldn't take more than 5 to 7 years. Take some vitamin C!

Not enough big government was at the heart of Don Diego's Ebola complaint when he posted the (below) quoted, panic-stricken conspiracy on the other Ebola thread. Unfortunately, his sarcastic threads appear to contradict each other. Just another day at LVA

No contradiction at all, . . . other than the intentionally sarcasticl call for more Government.

As DonDiego has clarified on many previous occasions, his objection to Government is not predominantly that it is too big overall, but more importantly that it is overly involved in many things it has no business doing, . . . and this is often at the expense of doing the things which the Constitution explicitly calls for it to do, . . . like f'rinstance defending the borders to protect American citizens.

DonDiego suggests defending the citizens from additional arrivals of Ebola-carrying transients is included in that duty. [Obviously the Founding Fathers were unfamiliar with the Ebola virus, but they were quite aware of the idea of quarantine.] And it wouldn't require any additional Government, . . . just appropriate application of State Department, Transportation Department, and War Department, . . . umm that is Defense Department, . . . resources as required.

You misunderstood..
"Don't worry, I'm from the govt and I'm here to help" THIS statement scares the shit outta me and it can preclude any dilemma/disaster or whatever. HINT: it's a sarcastic view of govt incompetence.( I must admit, I do get pretty frightened at halloween on occasion)

and it was in direct response to your claim/statement .."I dodge nothing...I simply admit I am not a medical professional and defer my response to people who are educated experts in the field."

The govt/healthcare officials are already proving their incompetence, they seem to have there heads up there asses so far. To what "educated experts" do you refer? Names please.
And again, I AM NOT PANICKED . At all

I'll go with the CDC. Give me a better alternative. So far the alternatives offered up are:
- (Boilerman) pointing to a Sean Hannity interview where the host falsely concludes Ebola is Airborne
- (Don Diego) who tells us we need to build a fence to keep Ebola coming over from Mexico.

Between scientists and our resident circus clowns, I'll take scientists. Who are you picking, Jatki?

Of course PJ conveniently left out the alternative that has been suggested many times. Don't allow unfettered access to the USA to people who have recently been in areas of Western Africa where Ebola is rampant. This option has been selected by many other countries including the neighbors of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. It's kind of...you know...Common Sense.

It may very well be overkill, but wouldn't that have prevented at least 2 Americans from getting sick? What are they worth? Oh..and you do realize that there is not agreement among Doctors and Scientists on banning travel to the US from the infected areas, don't you?

I didn't conveniently leave it out - I purposefully left it out. Why? Because I read an article from an expert who said flight restrictions don't stop the spread of infectious disease. (Coincidentally, she also debunks the airborne myth). Perhaps AlanLeroy can share his source for information so we can determine the level of expertise of the person who gave it to him. Like I said - I'm not a medical expert and am open to listening to people who are. I'm not open to propaganda from the boogeyman.

5 myths about Ebola
"Many nations have banned flights from other countries in recent years in hopes of blocking the entry of viruses, including SARS and H1N1 “swine flu.” None of the bans were effective, and the viruses gained entry to populations regardless of what radical measures governments took to keep them out."
