American Ebola patient flew a Frontier Airlines flight only two days ago

Of course PJ conveniently left out the alternative that has been suggested many times. Don't allow unfettered access to the USA to people who have recently been in areas of Western Africa where Ebola is rampant. This option has been selected by many other countries including the neighbors of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. It's kind of...you know...Common Sense.

It may very well be overkill, but wouldn't that have prevented at least 2 Americans from getting sick? What are they worth? Oh..and you do realize that there is not agreement among Doctors and Scientists on banning travel to the US from the infected areas, don't you?

I didn't conveniently leave it out - I purposefully left it out. Why? Because I read an article from an expert who said flight restrictions don't stop the spread of infectious disease. (Coincidentally, she also debunks the airborne myth). Perhaps AlanLeroy can share his source for information so we can determine the level of expertise of the person who gave it to him.

5 myths about Ebola
"Many nations have banned flights from other countries in recent years in hopes of blocking the entry of viruses, including SARS and H1N1 “swine flu.” None of the bans were effective, and the viruses gained entry to populations regardless of what radical measures governments took to keep them out."

75% of Doctors Support Travel Ban

"SERMO, the leading social network of fully verified, licensed physicians in the U.S., announced today the results of recent polling of the SERMO physician community about the Ebola epidemic and its implications for the United States.

When asked if they believe all travel from West Africa should be halted to the US, 75% of the respondents chose "Yes." The poll questions also highlight concerns many physicians have about the U.S. preparedness level of the healthcare system to handle Ebola."

Like I said..It's common sense. Unfortunately common sense is not common.
I'll say one thing for PJ, he has never let facts deter him from his moronic musings. Once again he is wrong - but he will never admit it. And so he goes....

DonDiego has often proposed a fence along the Mexican border. The chief reason is that a well constructed, properly patrolled fence along the Mexican border would keep ne'er-do-wells, miscreants, and undesirables from entering the Country illegally. DonDiego would prefer folks to apply for citizenship legally; if one's first act upon entering the Country is to break the Law what kind of citizen is he likely to be?

And now that pjstroh objects, DonDiego is more certain that it is a good idea. And it would keep people infected with Ebola or other diseases from entering the US via that route.

Oh, and by the way, DonDiego has no objection to a similar fence along the Canadian border, but he attaches a much lower priority to it.

"Good fences make good neighbors."

Just an observation: Why did pjstroh assume the fence in the cartoon was the Mexican border? DonDiego thought it an artistic portrayal of an ineffective barrier.
Actually Ebola has so far only entered the Country through air travel. That's why DonDiego favors preventing passengers from those regions affected by the Ebola epidemic from flying to the United States. Had such a ban been in effect at least 2 nurses would not now be infected with the virus. But, what the heck, it's only 2 people, . . . a small price to pay so that The Obama, the one-time anointed Prince of the World, can avoid being seen as unkind to foreigners.

So as I understand it there are three main objections to the commercial travel ban.

1. Victims will go around it and come here anyway.
2. It prevents much needed people and material from getting to the impacted areas.
3. It will hurt the economies of the impacted countries.

Answers:
1. If they can't come by air, they will likely die before they get here.
2. Travel to and from impacted areas should be handled by the US military (edited to add: And Medical Charter Flights) not commercial air travel. It should be a far larger effort than is currently planned and include a system of quarantine for returning travelers.
3. You've got to be kidding.
Apparently those African countries which closed their borders and banned air travel with Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea believe it stemmed the spread of the disease.

But what would they know about it?
During a CDC press conference today, the CDC speaker said that the nurse never went out in public, and not 15 seconds later said that the nurse went shopping in Cleveland. She then said that the nurse's mother was not allowed to travel because of contact with her infected daughter, and then 5 minutes later the CDC speaker stated that the mother had flown to visit her daughter.

These folks are experts?

The govt/healthcare officials are already proving their incompetence, they seem to have there heads up there asses so far. To what "educated experts" do you refer? Names please.
And again, I AM NOT PANICKED . At all

I'll go with the CDC. Give me a better alternative. So far the alternatives offered up are:
- (Boilerman) pointing to a Sean Hannity interview where the host falsely concludes Ebola is Airborne
- (Don Diego) who tells us we need to build a fence to keep Ebola coming over from Mexico.

Between scientists and our resident circus clowns, I'll take scientists. Who are you picking, Jatki?

Boiler hasn't watched Hannity in about a year. Try again.

And Libs always say "If it saves even one life, it's worth it". Apparently not in this case.

Whats the common sense solution for uninfected US aid workers, volunteers and visitors who are in Liberia today? Tell them they are never allowed to return to their country of citizenship until Ebola has been wiped off the face of the earth? Do tell. And if Italy doesn't impose the same travel restrictions we do then what is to stop people from traveling from Liberia to the US via Rome? I suspect that's why the senior advisor to the health at the Council of Foreign relations says your solution is a myth.

But Hey! I give you credit, Alan. You posted statistics from informed people. Good for you. You've officially one-up'ed Jatki, Don Diego, and Boilerman.
