One armed bandit.

It's not monkey but it sounds like it, some Chinese word for lucky I think. My grandmother called a car a machine.

I thought it was monkey. I say it often, especially after a few cocktails, when I want a paint.

I think it may be pronounced mon-kay!

[DonDiego employed Google and found two sources agreeing on the explanation for use of the word "Monkey" at the gambling tables.]

"Monkey" is the name for the face cards in a standard deck.

Apparently it originated in Asia in the early 20th century when Asian players referred to the face cards, . . . i.e.King, Queen, and Knight, . . . as "Monarchy" in English.
Over the years it just devolved into "Monkey".
