FCC votes to consider lifting in-flight cell phone ban

Since it's not a safety issue, the FCC should stay the hell out of the decision.

Airlines should determine their own policies, and consumers could then vote with their dollars. You know, capitalism.

AlanLeroy is going back on hiatus after the big party at MGM.

Ultimately this issue will be decided by the Airlines. I imagine some airlines will want the Business Traveler and those born after 1950 while others will cater to those who can't focus on their own thoughts and want to control the actions of those around them. Maybe they'll have cell talking and non talking flights. You can bet our competitors around the world will.

Dr never acknowledges my compromise suggestion. It's his whiney way or the highway. Hell I'd even go for The Cone of Silence if the damn thing ever worked.
alan- I have no problem with your suggestion of designated areas on an aircraft for those who choose to talk on their cell phones. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how the airlines would implement such a system. Personally I think that it would be difficult. In response, I am still able to "focus on my own thoughts" but I still feel that I should be allowed to do so without hearing someone else's cell phone conversation. Have a nice day.
All airlines WILL be allowing in flight phone calls in the near future ... there is just too much money to be made on the add on fees they will charge .

Your comments are a non-argument allenleroy. I can throw them right back at you and ask when are you going to stop your intrusions into MY personal space with your constant nannering/communicating. You can't put the damn thing down for a couple hours? Does it ALWAYS have to be about you?

See how it sounds?

I know. That's why I suggested a compromise of Talking Sections. Just like they used to have smoking sections.

But still, the only reason Cell Phones were banned on airplanes was a perceived safety issue that does not exist. It was not to provide peace and quite for the passengers. Peace and quiet in a public space is an oxymoron. Do you want to ban cell phones on busses or trains too? How about all public places? It's the same issue isn't it?

I may need to dust off my notes on that direct brain to cell phone interface I was working on. Or the cell phone that learns your voice and then translates your texts into your voice...That would solve everything.

They can't do this. Chilcoot said it's not safe.
I said something kind of vaguely like that, but not that. At all.

I forget how poorly nuance works here.
No cell phone calls on Delta, CEO says
Nice to see that Southwest and Delta are smart enough to not allow cell phone calls.
What's the penalty for making a cell phone call on the plane?
